Wests Tigers are pleased to announce that forward Alex Twal has signed a new playing contract with the club.

The new, two-year deal will see Twal remain with Wests Tigers until the end of the 2022 season.

A standout junior representative forward, Twal joined Wests Tigers midway through the 2017 season and quickly made his first-grade debut against the Newcastle Knights in Round 17.

He would go on to play every game for the remainder of the season before making for his international debut for Lebanon at the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.

Starring in the Cedars’ memorable run to the knockout rounds, Twal would further consolidate his spot in Wests Tigers first-grade squad with 21 appearances in 2018 before going one step further in 2019 by featuring in every game during the year.

The 23-year-old recorded career highs in offloads, metres gained and tackles made under Michael Maguire in 2019, and finished as one of the most effective tacklers in the league with a 95.1% tackle efficiency rate.

The Parramatta City Titans junior said he was extremely pleased to re-sign with the club.

“It was a really easy decision for me to re-sign,” Twal said.

“This club gave me my debut and I’m really happy with where the club is going and what direction Michael Maguire has us going in.

"I’m just excited to be a part of it going forward.

“I’m still a long way away from the player I want to be in the NRL but I’m really happy with my progress. This club has helped me so much as a player and a person, and I’m really looking forward to where things go in the next few years.”

Alex Twal
Wests Tigers Head Coach Michael Maguire said he was delighted to see Twal remain with the club and said he was excited to see him continue to move forward in the coming years.

“I’m really excited that we’ve been able to secure Alex for another two years,” Maguire said.

“I’ve been thoroughly impressed with the way he grew his game throughout the year, and I have no doubt that his role in this team will only continue to grow in the coming years.

“For a player of his age, Alex has really matured on and off the field and we’re very excited to see him continue his development into a real leader for Wests Tigers.”

Latest on Latrell Mitchell. @nthqldcowboys are discussing their meeting with Latrell Mitchell but at this point unlikely to make an offer to him. That plus the @WestsTigers speak about their chase for Mitchell @9NewsSyd

Woohoo looks like we might be doing a Steven Bradbury.

I watched the small clip of LM and the lady reporter asked him how was dinner but he wouldn't give her anything except it was "hot" up here.. Hope that puts him off going to NQ..

Most viable reporters have stated Mitchell is a done deal at the Tigers as the demand and salary cap room is not there for most clubs. We are on the rise and have a good coach, new facilities coming and a settled board room. Thinks will change moving forward.

The Cowboys were never going to offer a contract To Mitchell, Val Holmes and Michael Morgan’s partners are sisters and have a fitness business in NQLD. If they made Latrell an offer and lost Holmes they would have problems at the club.

This was all orchestrated to place pressure on Holmes by his management. The NFL is a pipe dream and the overseas player allocations are a smart marketing tool for them to generate international interest in the NFL. Once the money dries up and the realisation you are below average sets in it would be hard to stay. 1m a season is a big loss for a shortish career.

@AnnandaleTiger

Jesus if this is true, maybe that forgotten man guy on FB is on the money I’m getting excited now lol

Wow, If reports are on point.... It’s going to be a looong offseason.
Can’t wait, but I will, cause I have to.
