There also has to be some objectivity about where the club is at presently and where it has come from.
Blind Freddy knows that to be successful on the field you need to be financially sound off it. You can’t have one without the other. So to be so dismissive of those improvements as if they are insignificant, stinks of someone with a cross to bare rather than someone who wants to discuss things rationally. Blanket blaming is a cop out and identifies nothing - “the club” we have at the moment is nothing like “the club” it was 5 years ago and nor are the people making the decisions.
I don't have a cross to bear at all. Why would I? I'm a supporter of the club and I want us to be successful. It's something i've invested significant time and money in throughout my life. However, i'm also going to call it as I see it and until we start to see some success on the field I won't be satisfied.
I agree with you completely!
We could be the best financial club in the competition and that doesn't mean anything until it translates to result on the field.
For too long have we said things will be better next year and its not, now here we are in January and we already have people saying we are building for next year, or we are signing up all the best juniors and we have to be patient. I was patient when we had the last crop of "best juniors" coming through and that got us nowhere, even when we had them a couple of years into their careers we still missed the finals. I was here when people, including myself, were saying the independent board would deliver results, it didn't.
I am just as excited as anyone about the juniors we have attracted, but I am ready for us to see improvements on the field now, not in 1-2 years time. I will still be here no matter what, I'll be in my seats at all grounds and travel to Tamworth no matter what. For those saying to be patient and having a go at people who want improvements now, we are allowed to be sceptical because for the last 9 years all this club has shown is failure.
Until we get the training facilities and corporate facilities , where we can transcend the pretty obvious optics of being a second class club , we are going to find it difficult.
It’s a perception thing. All we can do is build the platform we currently are, where we have strong juniors , a competitive team , and make awesome financial strides off the field . It’s crazy how a missed conversion kick and a dodgy call , for Brisbane at the start of last year , are the difference between the feeling of we suck and we are moving on up.
And really we are talking about playing 1 more game of footy. Kind of weird how close as tigers fans we come to actual success .
A lot of that is just making excuses though, many other clubs have similar issues and are able to find a way through it. I and a lot of others want to see us moving forward, 9th is not enough anymore. To be moving into 2020 with an arguably worst top 30 than last year is unforgivable in my opinion, especially in the way we downgraded our roster while our actions improved the roster of others.
Do they though ? Manly and Cronulla are both geographically superior. Players want to play there as they can live on the beach and almost walk to work . Souths roosters, Canterbury Penrith and the slime-balls all have elite facilities. When you say it like that , we have the least to offer clubs as of 2020 . You add the facilities and we start to compare more . But you’re ? right . Winning definitely is the main goal. I personally for the 1st time this year , feel like we are moving towards something . Even the sheenius years , felt like we caught lightning in a bottle :
