Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Oliver Clarke, Rob Jennings, Chris Lawrence, Benji Marshall, Sam McIntyre, Chris McQueen, Paul Momirovski, Alex Seyfarth, Matt Eisenhuth and Elijah Taylor are all off contract for 2021.

Honestly the only guys Madge might keep are Seyfarth and Momirovski. Might depend on how some of them go this year but I’d expect a few new faces next season

One obvious one to lose their spot is Jennings with the promotion of Cini for 2021.

Tigers recruitment will cast the net wide and juniors will rise through the ranks. Players off contract always have plenty of incentive and motivation to play well - money and another contract.

An experienced middle forward leader with rep and big game experience would be nice in 2021 as our pack will still be relatively inexperienced - someone like Frizell fits that criteria.

100% agree. Jennings seems to have taken the first steps in earning a contract by shedding a lot of weight but if his performances don’t improve he’ll be gone. The club really rates Cini and we’ve also got Hoffman coming through as well.

Why are so many experts here dirty on Mbye ? I think the bloke is a quality player and one that makes S O O , cant be too much of a waste if he can play at the elite level

Same thing has been said about Mbye his whole career.

Nice guy, talks well on camera, is a good athlete but not quite the footballer.

Him not having a position locked in this far into his career speaks volumes.

Great utility, lucky to make the QLD team but they're looking thin these days.

I still think #6 is his best position personally but the guy is not worth what hes paid but is overall very likeable, level headed and has some athletic ability... he just isnt elite at any position but good at a few.

A $500k pa. player at the most...

Yeah... at the most.
Performance wise hes around 350k

We all know he can do it tho.
Just has to translate on the field.
He is capable.

What's done is done, as far as wages are concerned.
What is important now is whether Mbye adds to the Tigers squad.
I rate him. He showed - even playing on one leg - towards the end of last season in the centres, that he contributes a lot to the team. I am concerned at how he tended to rush up out of the line in defence, but I am sure with more time there Madge will sort that problem out. However, he hit hard in tackles and looked more than capable with the ball. I for one, am happy with him in the team.

I think his defense is great.

Well quite a few rate him.
Slater stated number of times that he rates him as fullback. Good organiser and number cruncher at the back with ability to insert himself in attack at right times.
Queensland coach also likes what he sees ...... and he performed reasonably well at SOO level.
........ so all up there is some evidence to say that he is due for injury free good season ahead of him.
Wait and see and hope it all works out well for him and us.

Mbye the only Tiger playing Origin. So whatever you think of him, selectors have him in the Top 40 or so players in the comp.

The QLD selectors have him in the top 18 of QLDers. I’m looking forward to Moses having an injury free season.

A guy close to the club said Reece Hoffman is the kid they think will be the one who really kicks on and he a Tommy T will be auto picks next year

Good things would definitely come from replacing them with quality!

I am not sure I agree. While he was picked, I think he benefited from a lack of depth in QLD last year. I think if Australia were to have an injury crisis, they would go well outside the list of origin players before Mbye is even considered.

Not having a go, but that comment made me laugh coming from someone called McQueen Magic. Welcome to the forum, Macca.

I think it’s more his utility value that gets him picked. I don’t think he’d be the number 1 or even number 2 choice in any position but he gives you cover across 1-7 and 9 from the bench.

It’s a case of “live by the sword die by the sword” for the player. If it’s his utility value which gets him picked it also gets him moved on. Similarly as Doueihi found out. Promised 6 then Rabbitohs re-signed Walker, promised 1 and they signed Mitchell. Perhaps not settling in a position and demanding to stay there has a downside?

Mbye killed it at fullback for us when he first joined the club, he was one of the best for those 9 games. Don’t know why he struggled there last year but I rated him at centre, strong in defence, ran hard, good passing and hits holes.

I hope the Grant deal happens so he’s not stuck in another new position at hooker
