Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Bunty would be a good option. He’s young, has an impact running the footy, would be cheap and we need a bench forward. He’s not a huge stats player Could easily make the leap that Fonua-Blake or Aloiai have and turn into that kind of prop.

Oh, to be a fly on the recruitment manager's wall, like with the NRL still to confirm roster size for next year, the many coaching changes at other clubs, the upgrades to contracts etc etc.
Lucky Madge has his magic wand.
This is best left to experts.

Eisenhuth gone huh. That's disappointing. He's finally kicked on in his 4th year with us. Seems a waste to invest so much time in his development only for another club to reap the rewards. I think he'll do well wherever he ends up.

Club wants to retain him but has been asked to be patient while roster is turned over a little bit understand that if something comes along from another club that he needs to look after himself.

Sorry for all the questions, what’s the club doing player retention wise? Obviously it’s hard with next year being uncertain of squad sizes but surely they are at least in early discussion with some guys who are free to talk to other clubs come November

Only 2 players off contract in 2021 have had extensions discussed (Aloiai & Twal) but early days.

In regards to the squad size has the nrl set a date to decide

Current squad size 3o what are they looking to reduce it too.

Constant number being discussed is 28
Development players to possibly go down to maximum 4

Any internal talks of an experienced backrower i.e Proctor or Harris, or is this just media suggestions?

Samoan connection could be about to add another player to the club with Bunty Afoa’s name discussed this week. Warriors keen to offload & free up a Roster spot. Will pay majority of 2021 deal if needed.

Thanks @THE_POM any other general info?

Negotiations with Saab have stalled for 2 reasons, 1. Other recruitment opportunity’s arising 2. What Dragons wanting in return becoming sticking point also. Deal not dead but not as close as it was a few days ago.
With all these coaching changes the roster management is really starting to shift, also NRL hasn’t confirmed what size team lists will be next year.
Recruitment issue next year isn’t about cap space but roster spots. Club wants to free up some spots for 2021, this will ultimately cost us Esienhuth at this point.
Proctor has been discussed internally & a question of value was brought up with his mama helmet but nothing further.

Surely they won't waste a roster spot on Benji, he will be 36 and is already on the decline fast

If the squad size goes down + we can’t move on Reynolds it would be tough to hold onto Benji.

It shouldn't even be a consideration, we have Brooks, Grub, Madden, Mbye, Doueihi, Talau and Walters who can all play in the halves and are contracted next year, it would be a total waste of a roster spot to let Benji indulge his ego for another year

Interesting given the amount of injuries with some new rules. Sad lower grades haven't played this year. Wonder what future impact this will have

I meant more the role not the player.
Has it been identified as a recruitment requirement..

I agree, if we can move Grub on as well, that to would be good, but with roster spots at a premium, it would be nothing but pandering to Benji's ego to give him another year, he can work for the club in other off field areas.
If not he can go play with the Auckland Blues, Saints or Brisbane again as far as I am concerned
