Eisenhuth gone huh. That's disappointing. He's finally kicked on in his 4th year with us. Seems a waste to invest so much time in his development only for another club to reap the rewards. I think he'll do well wherever he ends up.

Club wants to retain him but has been asked to be patient while roster is turned over a little bit understand that if something comes along from another club that he needs to look after himself.

Sorry for all the questions, what’s the club doing player retention wise? Obviously it’s hard with next year being uncertain of squad sizes but surely they are at least in early discussion with some guys who are free to talk to other clubs come November

Only 2 players off contract in 2021 have had extensions discussed (Aloiai & Twal) but early days.

I thought Twal was off contract end of 2022.

2022 is a player option, can technically become free agent from November 1 this year if not activated prior.

Hey Pom are the previous reports linking us to having an interest in Foran genuine?

Nothing from inside the club is pushing this with Foran.

Hallelujah :raised_hands:

Enough of these pensioner signings. Prioritise youth with potential instead of experience with arthritis...

Cheers POM you absolute legend :kissing:

He is 5 years younger than Benji, and there are plenty who think we should keep him, I know which one would make us a better chance of making the 8, and it isn't Benji

Welcome to our world now doggo's

No wonder we couldn’t afford him. Dodged a bullet

I wonder what happened to him, he was going great playing fullback for the Dogs at the back end of last season, then the wheels just fell off.

Exactly, that would give us a quick backline, it would be unheard of, but wow, it would be a welcome change, and a pretty young backline as well

Staines is a fullback - only filled in on the wing. If we were to sign him and JAC (I doubt it) Staines would be fullback

Me thinks that as well. Tbh I think I'd rather Burton out of the two. Classy composed player with a clean kicking game.

So to clarify based on comments from The_POM:

Club not looking seriously at Proctor (thank god!)
Benji may or may not go around again next year - if he has any commonsense he won't;
If Benji pulls the pin (he's not contracted anyway), then Doueihi potentially moves to 6, allowing us to have a red hot crack at JAC or Staines as a possible fullback;
Bunty Afoa could potentially end up at the club which provides us with an impact forward which we need;
Blore well regarded and highly rated and the club want to keep him;
Aloiai and Twal in the clubs long term plans.

That about right?

Panthers give Staines permission to test market as Tigers and Dogs circle (SMH)
https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/panthers-give-staines-permission-to-test-market-as-tigers-and-dogs-circle-20200819-p55nbf.html

Full article..

Penrith have given rookie sensation Charlie Staines permission to test the market, despite tabling the teenager an offer until the end of 2023.

It comes as Dallin Watene-Zelezniak's future at the Bulldogs comes under the microscope, with his name popping up at rival clubs after being dropped, despite the Kiwi international only re-signing with the Bulldogs over the summer on a deal worth about $700,000 a season until 2022.

The Bulldogs, as well as Wests Tigers, are just a couple of clubs that have shown interest in acquiring the services of Staines, who has been offered an upgraded contract for next year by the Panthers, as well as an extension of the deal until 2023.

However, Staines' management indicated they wanted to wait until November 1 to allow the 19-year-old the chance to see what opportunities arose elsewhere given his path may be blocked by Dylan Edwards and Caleb Aekins at fullback at the high-flying Panthers.

The Panthers don't want to wait until the end of the year to sort out their salary cap and roster, and have subsequently granted Staines permission to begin discussions with rival clubs immediately. They are expected to return to the negotiating table later in the year.

Staines, who scored four tries on debut against Cronulla on the wing last month before being stood down for breaching the COVID-19 protocols, is considered one of the hottest young talents in the game, having starred throughout the juniors at fullback.

The table-topping Panthers want to retain his services despite having Edwards on the books until 2022, but know they may not be in a position to do so if rival clubs are able to offer him the No.1 jersey and come close to the **$300,000-a-season deal he is after.**

Staines was the Jersey Flegg player of the year in 2019, also making his reserve grade debut, during which he scored two tries and ran for close to 250 metres.

Veteran recruitment manager Mark Hughes, who signed Staines to the Panthers as a junior, has connections with the Bulldogs. The Dogs' chances of landing Staines are also aided by the signing of Panthers assistant Trent Barrett as head coach next year.

Tigers recruitment manager Warren McDonnell has been trying to sign Staines since he was 15 and is also huge admirer of the Forbes Magpies junior. The Bulldogs and Tigers are unsure of who their No.1 will be next season, with Watene-Zelezniak's future at Belmore unclear. The Bulldogs signed Watene-Zelezniak on fullback money after an impressive showing for the club when he joined them from the Panthers midway through last year.

Unfortunately for Watene-Zelezniak, who started the season in the No.1 jersey, he has since been shifted to the centres and then out on to the wing before interim coach Steve Georgallis dumped him from last week's side against the Tigers.

The Tigers are also making plans to shift Adam Doueihi from fullback into five-eighth or centre next season, opening the door for the club to pursue Staines. The other fullback on the market is Melbourne Storm back-up Nico Hynes. Doueihi's future will also hinge on whether Benji Marshall decides to play on for another season or if co-captain Moses Mbye remains at the club.

$300k.!! Thats our starting salary here

Talk about a bargain, sign him and he can try fullback

Yeah man I hear Ya...

We'd probs be a better team with him over benji but I reckon the risk/reward is too high. The dude's a risk of getting injured rolling out of bed in the morning lol.

Looks like roster spots are at a premium for next year. The club seems adamant on reducing signings that have little upside through development(older dudes)

You would think the Dogs would struggle to sign JAC and Stains considering they already paid big money for Cotric, DWZ is there for a few more years also on 700k etc.. You don't want to spend big chuck on Salary on back 5.. But on the other side Souths / Roosters don't seem to have that problem

But but. Surely he would be after fullback money if he is signing with a club to play fullback. $350-400 at least.

Gotta remember he’s on minimum now and has barely played first grade. Even $300k is a pretty high amount for him.

Less than Min. Dev contract.
