SIMON DWYER TO TAKE FIRST STEP IN REP CAREER
By Wayne Cousins
3/05/2011 6:47:02 PM

Simon Dwyer will take his first step towards what could be an illustrious rep career in Albury this Friday night.

The boom Wests Tigers second-rower will make his representative debut when pulls on the City jersey against Country.

He will be joined in the City colours by Wests Tigers team-mates Robbie Farah, Keith Galloway and Liam Fulton. Chris Heighington and Tim Moltzen will line up against Dwyer for Country.

The 22-year-old has developed into one of the best young back-rowers in the NRL with his wide angle running and ability to offload in a tackle.
His bone crunching hit on Roosters prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves in last year’s preliminary final saw Dwyer thrusted into the media spotlight as a big hitter.

Contracted to Wests Tigers for a further two seasons, Dwyer’s game continues to develop under Head Coach Tim Sheens as he continues to learn the trade from representative second-rowers Gareth Ellis, Chris Heighington and Liam Fulton.

“I was shocked to hear my name read out but it is pretty exciting to make the team,’’ Dwyer said.

“Being picked for City is a great honour and I just want to do my best in my first senior rep game.

“You are only as good as the players you play with and my selection could not have been possible without the great forwards we have at Wests Tigers.

Farah will captain the City side for the third consecutive year and says Dwyer certainly can make a statement with a strong showing.

“Simon has played some really good footy for us not only this season but throughout last year,’’ Farah said.

“He is developing all the time and being picked for City is a just reward. Simon will come back a better player for the experience of being in a representative team.”

Galloway is confident Dwyer can handle the rise in class.

“Simon thoroughly deserves his selection. City-Country is the next level up for a young footballer and is always seen as a stepping stone to bigger and better things,’’ Galloway said.

“For him to do it in his second full season of first grade is remarkable. Simon has been exceptional for us and this will be a good chance for him to play with some high calibre players.

“His selection is definitely good for the club and shows what good young forward talent we have at Wests Tigers.”

Im glad he is playing for city, i ran into him at the races on melbourne cup day, and he said that was his goal for 2011, glad he achieved it, first time i had spoken to him, and he really impressed me.
Think he has played pretty good footy of late and hope he brains them tonight!

Good luck to Simon Dwyer who has turned into a starting second rower and playing big minutes.

Representative honours can do wonders for a young player's confidence.

Hope you have a big game and come back ready to smack the Rabbits into submission.

Great News,

Sheens had spoken about Dwyer and Woods years back and its great to see them living up to the high expectations.

Good Luck to all our rep players tonight..

Praying No injuries

he now has an opportunity.
his good efforts have been noticed and a rep jumper is the result.
make the most of it.
enjoy your self and the moment.

I actually think he's a chance at being a bolter for the Blues. Fittler and Johns have a boner over him and I'm sure they're both not without their pulling power with Sticky.

*****SPOILER******* DO NOT GO PAST HERE IF YOU DO NOT WANT A CITY COUNTRY SPOILER

and he scores a try! Great work Simon!!

Dwyer is playing pretty bloody well. Could be a smokey for the blues but I hope he is held off for another year, he will be better for it.

Dwyer is starting to find consistency both in attack and defensively looks very promising.

He prob is a year away from Origin and with Gallen, Creagh, Bird, Watmough and Lewis in front of him but he was the best of the backrowers tonight in City Country - regularly looked like breaking them open. Hieghno was a workhorse and prob with stewart the 3 of them made up the best 3 backrowers tonight

Dwyer isn`t far off being the best back rower in the game. He just needs to take a leaf out of Paul Gallen`s book in regards to work rate and constant aggression.

Great game,he looked very good tonight,lucky we have him locked up,because plenty of people will notice him now.

Simon Dwyer & Aaron Woods will play plenty of games for Australia, we must keep these two as Wests Tigers for life.
Dwyer a genuine Magpie junior & Woods a genuine Balmain junior, they are both very important to the future of the Wests Tigers.

To all the knockers a few weeks back calling for Simons head EAT HUMBLE PIE. you dont turn your back on talent you nuture it and bring it on slowly. Well done Simon and well done Sheensy. Keep up the effort you will make it big time!!!

He did play well last night, Galloway should be partnering Snowden in the front row IMO but I'm not sure Farah has done enough to earn a recall despite Fittler calling for him to be re-instated, I think Stuart will go for the grub.

Some stats for the Tigers out of last night's game:

Heighno played 49 minutes and made 69 metres in attack off 13 hitups, 22 tackles and 1 offload;
Moltzen played 21 minutes and made 17 metres in attack;

Farah made 64 metres in attack, 48 tackles (match high), 2 offloads;
Galloway made 90 metres in attack from 10 hitups and made 37 tackles;
Dwyer made 59 metres off 8 hitups, 1 try, 1 linebreak, 4 tackle breaks and 26 tackles; and
Fulton made 19 metres in attack and 38 tackles.

Dywer,Farah,Galloway all in the nsw side to be pick Tuesday week !! Dwyer bench n Farah and Galloway starting up front !! They all will go on the England Tour at end of season with the Roos aswell I must add … Woods will be the Bolter then in that side!!

From last night
Farah - Played the perfect trial for Origin in my opinion - tackled lots and well, passed sweetly , directed his side to the right positions and a great captains knock - should definatly be starting hooker

Galloway - Really impressed last night and should definatly be in Origin starting with Snowden

Dwyer - Wow this kid is a star of the future for not just the tigers but NSW - was the best backrower on the field last night just always looked dangerous and was solid in defence

Fulton- Did a lot of defence but missed a few tackles and didnt make many meters or get enough of the ball but was ok

Hieghington - Was solid as always I think unfortunatly for Chris he just isnt quite at the Origin level - a poor mans Paul Gallen unfortunatly (but as Gallen is the best forward in the comp its still a wrap)

Moltzen - Only got 20 minutes but did a couple of impressive things actually looking sharp. Unfortunatly for the Tigers his best position is 5/8 and until he goes to a club where he plays 5/8 he wont be at his best - when he does I think he might well play for NSW

Farah, Galloway and Dwyer were our 3 best tigers IMO and have a great chance of making NSW. Heighington didn't do much in attack, but he had good enough defense. Moltzen was awful, horrible passes and just ran at the line all game. Fulton did a lot of defense, but was missing in attack.

Farah was great. Good service, smart running and knew when to kick the ball. His defense was great too. Dwyer is a bolter. He runs great lines and made a fair few tackles, he is the future. Galloway carried defenders for 5 metres every time he touched the ball and got through a workload.
