Simon Dwyer

Agreed, wish him a speedy recovery. When he went off we lost one of our few attacking options tonight.

Definetly, not only attack but also defence. I love Dwyer and highly rate him. We are gonna miss him if he has to miss games. :sign:

I felt sick when i saw the incident…best wishes and speedy recovery Simon.

WESTS TIGERS officials last night expressed concern for the welfare of back-rower Simon Dwyer after he was taken to hospital with a neck injury.

Dwyer walked from the field with assistance after hitting his head on the hip of Canterbury prop Michael Hodgson in a mistimed tackle in the 11th minute. He later complained of pins and needles in his right arm and was placed in a neck brace.

Initially, it was thought that he was concussed but Tigers doctor Scott Burne said Dwyer had suffered nerve damage and was unable to say whether the injury was career threatening.

''He took a direct hit over the base of his neck and that is why he had pain in his shoulder and the nerves to the arm run through there,'' Burne said. ''He has either stunned the nerves to the arm very badly or it could be more serious to that. If you impact a nerve badly it will actually stop functioning for a time.

''The classic case is a stinger, but in this case the function wasn't returning and that is why he has gone to hospital. He will be getting an MRI scan and some other X-rays around his neck to make sure that is OK and he will be seen by the neurologist and neurological team and he will probably stay overnight.''

Tigers players said they had assumed Dwyer was concussed and did not learn until after the match how serious the injury may be.

Tigers coach Tim Sheens said: ''He had a numb arm and a numb shoulder. He took a hit to the side of the head and the neck and that is what caused it. The reports are that there could be some nerve issues and we are just hoping that is not the case.''

Fellow back-rower Liam Fulton was concussed for the second time in as many weeks late in the match and Sheens said he would be stood down from the club's next game in two weeks' time.

Sheens also said he would be speaking to NRL referees boss Bill Harrigan about the lack of action against opposition sides for slowing down the speed of the play-the-ball.

''Last week and this week we have been wrestled into the ground, there is just no doubt about it,'' he said. ''There is no doubt the ruck is slower and we just have to adjust to it. We are getting off much too quick.''

Fullback Wade McKinnon had a horror night with kicks and two fumbles led to Canterbury tries - but he vowed to bounce back. ''It is frustrating but it is just one of those things. I will have to go back and practice and get on with it,'' he said.

Hopefully the bye will assist and he'll be back for the Eels game.

I have my doubts and to be honest there is a possibility he may never play again or it could just be slight nerve damage without much to worry about.I dont know for sure and Im no doctor but I Have a fear watching him walk off that theres a remote chance he has suffered something very sickening which if proven to be correct will mean he will never play again.Sad but true. The extremely worrying thing is that he was gone in the lower arm,the shoulder and just as if not more frightening seemingly the right side of his face looked like it might have had some nerve issues.Yet again I dont know exactly but watching him come off then seeing him in a neck brace sent to hospital it did not look to good.

Bad look fingers crossed for the young fella we are all thinking of you in the most positive light!.

It did look pretty bad and I can only hope it's not too serious.

I just can't believe that they made him walk off the ground, it looked pretty obvious even to this mug that there was something wrong, his whole right side collapsed when they stood him up and on the big screen you could see him pointing to his neck and shoulder.

What happened to sublaxed shoulder reported last night .Sublaxed shoulder (as suffered by Fulton earlier this year) is 6-8 weeks . Does that mean the injury he has suffered is going to be a worse time frame even at best case scenario ?? Will we ever get our No 1 line up on the field ???

Humpreys was just on the deadset legends, confirmed Dwyer was wrongly diagnosed on the field and shouldn't have had to walk off. Could we be anymore unprofessional?

Not if we tried. How embarrassing.

Unfortunately for us, our trainers are not certified doctors.

Geez and it was so hard to tell that from watching it.

Already the usual suspects use a horrible situatiin to criticise the club but not a word of sympathy for Dwyer from these grubs.

Get well Simon.

I wish Dwyer all the best, and hope he makes a full recovery. It looked a terrible injury and I was genuinely concerned with his welfare and could not believe he was allowed to walk off the field. It actually made me angry.

Hopefully he will be in the hands of more professional support than the amateurs we seem to employ at this club.

He Said the doctor was on the field and that there was no hint of a concussion, if he was walking off like he had no control over his legs and there was no consussion then it's pretty obvious what's wrong with him
