Sironen attends community evening at James Meehan High School

Wests Tigers youngster Curtis Sironen recently attended a Community Men’s evening at James Meehan High School in Macquarie Fields.

The evening aimed to address the serious issue of domestic violence which is prevalent in Western Sydney.

Christian Community Service Organisation, Mission Australia and the Macquarie Fields Police also support the initiative which was first started by James Meehan High School and now involves several other Schools in the area.

Former Police Commissioner Ken Moroney opened the evening with some words about respect and tolerance.

This was followed by some attendees sharing some personal and heartfelt stories about how domestic violence has affected their family.

Curtis, along with former NRL star, Nigel Vigana and current Penrith Player Clint Newton had a chance to address the audience.

Wests Tigers Aboriginal Projects Officer Shannon Williams also spoke of his personal journey about becoming a father at young age. He also chaired the discussion with Curtis, Vigana and Newton.

In addition to the forum, JMHS Pacific Island Community Liaison Officer, Fou Atonio, worked hard with the help of some year 10 students to prepare a “Hangi” which is a traditional Maori method of cooking food using heated rocks buried in a pit oven.
