Sironen really impressive: Fittler

Blues legend Brad Fittler today rated Wests Tigers young gun Curtis Sironen as the strongest chance to one day play for New South Wales, after a high performance training session involving some of the state's best young halves.

The training session, hosted by NSW coach Laurie Daley and Blues legends Fittler and Trent Barrett, was an invite only affair aimed at developing potential halves to lead the state against Queensland.

Young Wests Tigers halves Sironen, Jacob Miller, Luke Brooks and Mitchell Moses were all put through their paces at the NSWRL academy this afternoon.

"I think Curtis because Curtis has played first grade," said Fittler.

"I was really impressed with him today. Coming through the ages, things change.

"Curtis' size was really important coming through and that allowed him to adapt to the game quite well.

"The other players aren't as big so they're going to have to take on, when they come through, that extra work load and intensity of the game and they haven't been tested under those circumstances.

"So at the moment I'd have to say Curtis because he's tried and proven."

And while Fittler was lavish with his praise for the current crop of young stars, the man who was NSW's youngest debutant at just 18 showed he still had it, upstaging many of the young guns in attendance.

"Still got it, still got it," quipped Freddy.

"I'm very sore now though, I think I pulled my hips out of joint. So not good. "

I agree that Curtis Siro is the best prospect we have in the club. IMO, Siro Jr 6 and Benji 7 was the best halves pairing we had all year in 2012\. And, as I've said in a previous post, if Siro Jr had not got injured we would have made the playoffs.

The interesting question is where do we use him in 2013? Looks like Potter has 6,7 and 13 filled in with Benji, Miller and Anasta. At this stage Siro might be looking at centre or nothing.

It's fairly evident Siro's future lies in the backrow. I'd be playing him at lock in the State Cup for the whole year where he can learn the forwards trade. IMO he's not the first choice player for any position yet, and hence there's no real spot for him in first grade. He's only young, no need to rush him through, he has plenty of time to play first grade

Yeh good post though I wouldnt restrict him to one possy in reggies….give him a main position but if needed see how he goes if a center or one of the halves need replacing at some stage

Maybe give him a go at a few positions, whether it be centre, halves, second row or lock - see which one he excels most at

He's too slow for centre! Not great lateral movement at all! Must be in forwards too slow for backs

Could not agree more. Not yet sold on young Sironin

Wow… I think he has all the attributes and a smart football brain.

My only concern is Curtis's body... He has had some serious injuries in his late teens!

I also like the idea of him doing a year in State Cup as a Forward... We dont do enough of this these days, mainly due to 'risk' being too high, but this would be a perfect scenario for Curtis.

The idea has some merit Watto , but I would hope that Potter could give 6-8 interchange spots during the season so he doesn't get use to the mediocrity of the NSW Cup

I'm not knocking the NSW Cup , but the difference between the two is huge and a whole season just in that competition may lessen his expectations of himself as an NRL player

Doesnt matter if he's too slow for centre, youre probably right…but its only reggies and center would help his D

This is the big one …seen to many over the years that have what it takes except the body and I think the answer will be this coming season. You either have the shoulders or not just like the knees .....you can hide someone like Benji but not in the forwards unfortunately.

agree with all these posts. from the first game i say him play in firsts, i really thought he could become a killer backrower. i like him on the edges.. dont think he is cut out to be in the middle.
maybe u could try him at centre, but 99% sure it wont work out due to his speed.. but maybe improve his D?

seems like a good prospect, but we needa make sure we dont rush him in too quick and that we pick a spot for him soon and stick with it wether it be NYC or reggies.

I recon his size speed and experiance in the backs makes him an invaluable bench specialist for now. with injuries and the like he will play a big part in our upcomming season. Potter seems to have a lot of common sence to me so I trust that he will do the right thig by young Sirro, go you good thing.

Must be a pretty good musician , because he did little at SOO level

Barrett defintely had a few good games, he played in some great NSW sides. Even won MoTM if I'm not mistaken.

But not really a blues legend. Maybe if he played for QLD you could say he was a legend, much like Ikin.

Barrett never let NSW down… Always grew another leg in the Jumper,

Lat: Anyone who plays for Queensland is an Origin Legend. It's just how the game is viewed in Qld. The spirit will never die north of the border!
