Sirro should wear 6 (2014)

When a player has so much ball handling skill and a great footy brain might as well waste him as a battering ram in the back row!!! Nothing wrong with being big as a 5/8 another position to be able to break the line with inside and out side ball runners . Has been pencilled in by the forum as a one trick battering ram pony!

I don't like bagging one of our players just to make a point, but he is definitely not a 5/8 that will spark our back line . Second row or bench spot for 2014.

Sirro looks to slow for mine and goes missing in games.
Too often seen him beaten on the outside in defence due to lack of pace.

He's the modern fringe back-rower in the making for me. A great ball-runner with the ability to offload and playing him outside the halves should mean he isn't being burdened by organising the back line. He's someone that I think will be a gauge for is. If he is is successful, the team will be successful too.

He was never going to be a 5/8 long term. I think he was put in there to improve his ball handling skills and eventually move him to second row. It was never permanent.

Might sound crazy but if his attitude is right he could be as good as SBW, even better when you consider he will be committed to league. Imagine a home grown backrower BETTER than SBW

I must say I do agree looking at the bigger picture but SBW would be a lot quicker, I just like him at 5/8 for another season or 2 .

All I'm saying is:
:- Regardless of how much muscle he has packed on, at the end of the day, he is a better option than austin or anasta.
:- Wade Graham, Luke Lewis and Greg Bird have all spent time in the same position and sirro is more talented/skillful than all of them.
:- It's just for 2014 then moses should be ready to go.

I know everyone is talking Austin up but I would give him a bench spot, bring him on to either play halves/second row.
Give full control of the game to brooksy and faff and use sirro as a running half.
It's win/win

The players you mentioned all play as backrowers because that is their best position, as it is for Sirro. If we had a glut of backrowers that are equal to or better than him, sure move him if he is the best option, but only if he is the best option.

Anasta is done and dusted.

Sirro would be better than Braith surely?

Who is our NSW Cup 5/8th? Can we pull one from within our ranks somewhere?

Sironen will be far more effective when Brooks / Anasta have different moving targets running angles trying to get him one on one with a weaker defender

You want a creative person inside who can hit your runners

It is why having good centres who can hit holes at speed create so much for good backrowers because your options increase and creates confusion

Your use of the Birds ,Harrison's ,Lewis and Graham is for when you want to play a tight game and create off a forward pack that is on a roll and possibly target a weak defending half

The biggest thing in Brooks armament is he carries the ball in two hands and has a running game , it will put teams in two minds , that's the key

Hope you all had a great xmas guys.

I personally think we could use Sirro as 5/8 nxt year. His hard running, size and defense fits perfectly.
I know Potter has said he will be a forward but I would play him at 6 and use Austin as a utility on the bench.
We have a plenty of talent and depth in the forwards and with halatau probably starting and moltz out for most of year, we need a utility on the bench.
Imagine the defense, close to the line, trying to read sirro, when he has patterson running off of him, especially when he is so big he can easily take the line on himself.
Also gives Austin some time to work himself into the team.
Thoughts?

No chance. He has put 6kg of muscle in and will play left edge 2nd row

Hey mate,

Any insight into how you know this?

No way, keep Sironen in the back row!

Don't get me wrong, he was pretty good in the halves but in the back row he looked far more threatening. In the back row he was actually scoring tries and bending the line. If what everyone is saying about the weight he is putting on then I'm very excited to see what he will produce in 2014.

For my dollar, I think the 6 will be given to Anasta. Whether this will be a better option that Austin remains to be seen.

I know Sironen will be big and heavy (apparently) but Sutton is a big five-eighth and has become one of the best in the comp. Daley played five-eighth at close to 100kg and Fittler was over the hungy near the end of his career (maybe 103 from memory). I think he'll be in the back row sooner rather than later, but if Moses is our long term option, Sirro would be a decent stop-gap I reckon.

sutton is 102kg.

by the start of next season and after siro's FIRST proper preseason he will weigh in at ~108-110kg. he is not going to be a five 8 unfortunately….

in any case we need 2nd rowers for the future more than we need halves.

as long as he is able to stay fit and healthy all season, Sirro will be a benefit.
hopefully he gets to play in one position, and not swapped around alot.

probably cause Potter only played him 20-30minutes a game in the end of the season due to a groin injury which he got fixed up via surgery.

I reckon its the opposite, by Suttons own admission his game improved when he cut down on the ball playing and just ran hard and straight.

Helps when he has that monstrous forward pack to run behind and off

Daniel Fitzhenry would look good behind that pack
