The Wests Tigers recently held their school holiday clinic at Birchgrove Oval. Ive been given the run down by my girlfriends 9yo son who was in attendance.
The club offered up fringe players Joel Luani, Kurtis Rowe, Chance Peni and Sitaleki Akauola.
All four players presented well and did a fantastic job with the kids, the day itself was put on by the NRL and from all reports was well run, informative and fun.
The report on Luani was that he was very nice, it was suggested by said 9yo that perhaps a little too nice and this could have something to do with his inability to crack a first grade spot.
The other guys all did an exceptional job but special mention goes to Akauola who worked really well with the kids, was personable, responded well to the questions put to him and represented the club to the best of his ability.
I had a lot of time for the his talent before the school clinic but after hearing the reports i also have a lot of time for him as a decent person.
When asked by my reporter what his current position is Akauola said he plays everywhere but hooker.
When asked by my reporter can he play first grade again? - he said he is ready and waiting and would love to.
It is a crying shame the club arent treating him better, he has been pushed around, used and under valued all year. You would expect him to be disgruntled, upset or even angry yet when chosen to be an ambassador for the club he leaves all that behind and proudly and without fuss does an outstanding job representing the Wests Tigers.
I dont know about you guys but this is the kind of human being we should be looking to build this club around. Instead we are pushing him out the door.
Congrats to Sitaleki, Kurtis, Chance and Joel, you made a group of wide eyed kids very happy.
Keep it up.
