Gary, I've seen nothing recent to indicate that Elias doesn't support the involvement of the Wests group. There is nothing I've seen to support the hypothesis you advance.

@cktiger said:If you read the story he relates to the team as 'we'.
Don't you think he's relating to WestsTigers?
You will never hear me call them Wests either because I grew up calling them the Tigers.
I've got friends who call them Wests because they grew up following the Maggies.
Big deal - we still support the same team now.
And why on earth does anybody who makes a comment about speeding up the naming of a coach have to acknowledge the financial support of the Wests group or anybody else?

I know the author of this piece quite well, we were members of the same cycling club for years. Matthew is a proud socialist with a beautifully manicured habit of making baseless accusations. He's the journeyman of Fairfax, still writing crap, couldn't progress past being a political correspondent. He should rent an office with Danny Weidler
@Citizen Tiger said:I find the sensitivities of old Magpie supporters here just astonishing. People are supposed to walk around on egg shells, ensuring that they make mention of the little Magpie on the sleeve or that they adopt a preferred formality and call them Wests? Some of you grasp at straws, no you in fact grasp at thin air. Elias was one of the proponents of the merger, one of it's architects and indeed a strong voice in galvanizing the merger.
Elias, along with Pearce, Roach and Sironen have high media profiles, effectively that's the reason they're often quoted. Wests and I don't mean this in an offensive way, just have no ex players that you'd want an opinion from, save for Tommy, who's value is nothing more than comedic. Wests history was largely unsuccessful, they were battlers, survivors etc. If I were an old Wests fan I'd be thanking God every day that a merger saved my team from oblivion, because that's where they were heading. You now have a team of some significant quality and while there has been inconsistency, it's a a world apart from the diabolical decades of non performance. Stop whining, you're coming off an absurdly low base.

These are clear statements that show who has truly embraced the the JV and who hasn't. If you seriously cannot bring yourself to say the name of the opposite side the your team merged with after 12 yrs something is seriously wrong. :crazy
So much for being one club huh?
Still divided after more then a decade. Sad

Do you actually read anything before you make a comment or do you have trouble comprehending English?
I call them the Tigers through habit -and guess what?
They are still called the Tigers!
Where did I say I can't bring myself to mention the Wests part of
the name?
I also said both myself and ex Wests fans now follow the SAME team - how is that a 'clear statement' of not embracing the joint venture?
It's misguided comments like yours that try to put your own spin on what other people say that is truly sad.

Gee, thanks for sharing your denigrating comments about one of our foundation clubs and its players. Another one of those diabolical ex-Wests players with a bit of a media profile is Noel Kelly. There are plenty more of them around, but they obviously prefer not to shoot off at the mouth about everything and anything like Elias and co. They were very good players, too - although I'm sure you'd find that hard to believe, since Wests have had such an unsuccessful history :unamused:

all these us vs them arguements, they spice up the off season, however annoy you during the season, but not many pay attention to them anyway at that time.
**no matter how old you are, some bitter oldies need to grow up**

Lol im only 3 or 4 yrs older then you. This isn't a us v them argument from me, its WT vs everyone else. As i stated in my last post it annoys just as much when it goes the other way as well hence why i've said the same thing to the dinosaurs on the Magpie forum as well
I would have thought you being a WT fan with no prior allegiances would have recognized that
@tigermaniac said:Yes I agree Benny probably wants the the best for the WT, it's not his fault his team merged with the Magpies, his heart keeps him associated with the JV known as the WT. He has all the right to comment on any matter just as we do. But as long as players like him or Tommy get called club legends, we'll keep getting pissed off with one another. I personally don't even see players like Boyd or Tommy as club legends, they have nothing to do with the WT. They are Magpie club legends. We already have our own club legends, Hodgson, Skando, Galea and O'Neill. They delivered our team a premiership. That's what legends are made of. I think Benny cops heaps because of the way he makes mention of the Tigers, but not the WT. Now you tell me, am I imagining this, or is he pushing Balmains barrow.

@cktiger said:Love to see the family trees of some of you guys who can't acknowledge past Balmain or Western Suburbs players as being considered as part of our JOINT VENTURE's past.
WestsTigers may be a different entity to the two previous clubs but would not be in existence without them AND their histories.
PS Gnr … do you ever get it?
