SMH - Divisions derailing next step for Wests Tigers

ok thanks yoss. theres not much of a ruckess about the demise of the balmain tigers is there? compared to the magpies anyway

I think the arguement is that the Tigers identity is still intact, whereas the Magpie identity will well and truely be dead at senior level

I think steve-o's argument is that the Balmain name will also be dead. That's just as valid. The Wests identity will continue to live on.

There is no winning here.
Old Wests supporters begrudge losing their heritage , and , as a former Balmain supporter , I don't want to see Balmain go either.
I can't even come to grips with the Balmain Ryde Eastwood name combo. (sigh)
Tim Sheens wants one team (WestsTigers) to feed the NRLfranchise.
Thats ok for him - he isn't a supporter.
Once he's finished with us he'll collect his money and go somewhere else.
We're stuck here forever!
Money will eventually decide our fate but I think too many people are happy to dismiss our past(s) without thought.
As much as I support WestsTigers deep down I still wish it was Balmain Tigers - and would also love to see the Maggies in there under their true name.
And it's not only older guys like me.
My son (23 yo) who is a mad supporter wont wear anything branded WestsTigers.
Everything is retro Balmain.
I asked him why and he shrugged his shoulders and said he's still hoping for a miracle!
I wonder if those people who think it's all about the present and nothing else ever acknowledge their parents or grandparents input into their being alive?
Let's not forget that there is no present without the past.

Yeah but it cant be done if it isn't feasible - the dial-up modem was a big development in the history of communications but I guarantee you don't use one today!

The fact is for the foreseeable future there are too many clubs in Sydney and unless we go back to a Sydney only comp Balmain and Western Suburbs wont be included (certainly not in the top grade anyway).

I would rather a successful WT's than being able to walk down to Leichhardt with 100 other fans to watch a team with Balmain on their logo's.

ah ok thanks guys. i gotta be honest i dont really understand why the emblem (ie magpies and tigers) is more important than the name (ie wests and balmain). the name represents where ur from so in my eyes it is just as important as the emblem. when we merged we were always going to comprise on the names, it was either balmain magpies or wests tigers (not much of a choice really) and neither team got more out of the name (unlike the st george illawara dragons). whilst it is sad to see the demise of the magpies and balmain we still have the wests tigers in the nrl (unlike bears and jets supporters) which we should be grateful for, and really it does make sense to have only one state cup team. as long as the colours from both teams are still used both the magpies and balmain will always live on through the mighty WESTS TIGERS :sign:
