Goal kickers aren't allowed to improved their angle when attempting a conversion… Cant shorten the angle.
But some kickers prefer to be a bit off centre rather then right in front, are you allowed to take the kick from wider than where the try was scored?

Don't think you can Ink , can remember many years ago when one player in a game didn't take a penalty on the mark the ref called and he called a scrum , we took it few metres behind the actual mark

Penalties would be a different thing to conversions…. You'd think the kick would have to be parallel to where the try was scored

Not sure about the actual rule, but its not the first time I have seen a player take it back and wider of the mark for a Conversion.

I suppose the important aspect id they dont 'improve' the kick option.

It was from right in front. It isn't as though he gained an unfair advantage. He would have kicked it regardless.

I reckon for certain kickers theyd prefer it a bit off center, they swing the ball and its preferable to trying to kick strainght
Its not about him kicking the goal, its about the rule

Moving the ball back is improving the angle, so I don't see why they wouldn't be allowed to move it sideways away from the posts. Opening the angle at the expense of distance is a pretty fair compromise for mine.

I hate Smith with a passion, but by God I wish he played for us. The best player I have ever seen for taking every little advantage he can get away with. And he gets away with plenty.

I wish Rowdy had of walked up and told the ref to make Camo move the kick back to where it should have been taken, just to get under his kin.
