The local pigeons will whiten it up ?

Just like Rabbits Warren’s statue at Junee.

The pigeons won’t miss Cam either, it’s larger than life.

Haven’t read through the whole thread but my takes on Cam

A lot like Tom Brady in his ability to get the best out of a team as a leader
Probably the best record of any player to lace a boot
Very out of touch with the common man who pays his meagre dough to go watch the NRL
Cheated the salary cap by signing 2 contracts and will never admit it
His record of matches played and records in origin will stand for a long time
Won’t be appreciated for his grand final success as Melbourne have always benefited from significant NRL favouritism and obviously got 2 stripped
Outside of Storm and QLD fans, he won’t really be missed
Could have improved his image by plying his trade for struggling GC this year but that’s not his MO
Bit of a victim of some of the flaws in the game that I think need to be addressed, namely the farcical salary cap and talent distribution

Exactly like Tom Brady. Haters going to hate!

Like Brady was the best game manager is the modern era. Not the most talented. Farah was more talented for example. Like Arron Rodgers

Very much like Tom Brady. People are going to hate that level of success.

He wasn't the most talented. Similar to Brady and Aaron Rodgers. Brady's game management is out of this world. Rodgers is more talented and most fans can't comprehend that

Very similar to Cam Smith and Robbie Farah.

Most people will continually knock the Brady's and the Smiths but reality is that game management is where it is at and those two are the true greatest of all time.

Allegations of cheating or lack of understanding for why they are superior are part and parcel of the non fan.

Supporters well and truely understand the greatness and can't stomach the uninformed cheating allegations from people who just don't get it.

PS I'd put Smith on oar with Wally Lewis for game management. I'm not sure he is better than him. It's close.

A guy like Andrew Johns falls into the Aaron Rodgers category.

I liked how Brady took his gifts to a battling franchise who had consistently failed and proved his greatness once and for all. Cam never once played in a struggling side. He was obviously great but he won’t be appreciated by the masses because it was a charmed career.

Charmed career or superior player. Haters struggle with the answer

Read my comments, haven’t once knocked his ability, his detractors don’t like his character.

You don't judge the greatest players of all time by character.

Simple

Hitler was a clever tactician...

You may think that is clever but all it does is show what I am talking about

Cam Smith is Hitler ok dude

You win stupidest post of the year.

Wow... Someone is sensitive. Was obviously hyperbole.

Surely for the stupidest post of the year, my wife gets a free diamond ring right?

The thing is dude. Character matters. It always matters. No one is disputing he is a great sportsman, but if you're visibly arrogant and show little respect to others, don't expect people to show respect to you.

Maybe from that point of view, you and Cam go hand in hand.

I hope I go hand in hand with a legend

One of the best players ever! No one controls a game and leads a team around like he does. Has had his fair share of drama throughout the years but you can't deny his ability.

Sad to see him retire as he could've played another year and killed it again I'm sure. Someone rival fans hate but if he was on your team he would be your favourite player ever ?

No he wouldn't.

One of the greatest players ever? If he was at tigers his whole career he would have a statue out the front of Leichhardt ?

He would, just like the statues out the front of Arthur Holloway, Tommy Burke, Arthur Patton, Keith Barnes, Wayne Pearce and Benny Elias.

What happened to Cronk's statue?

Does it stand at Bondi or Melbourne

I'll say this...."imo" He is just as entitled to a statue if you are talking the Melbourne Storm as Smith and Slater.

Just my opinion though.

Good Riddance....IMO he and his coach are solely responsible for introducing the cheating element, aka wrestle and win at any cost into the game....I will never forget his reaction while Alex McKinnon lay there crippled.

Didn't Brian Smith leave when Alan Jones stopped giving out shoulder rubs in the Balmain sheds? Have I missed something?

Both of those names leave me feeling sick. One had little skill as a player and the other had even less skill as a coach.

Now that Cam Smith is part of Rugby League Royalty, how long will it take for royal tongues to start waging and questioning the colour of the statue?

I can't see Cameron Smith in that statue at all
Looks nothing like him
For such an accomplished player you would think they would get the likeness a little better

Man I bloody hate when people say this

How the hell was Smith meant to know what happened to McKinnon? He's not a doctor for Christ's sake, he doesn't have x ray vision he can't see broken bones. He argued to the ref like he's done a million other times and like a million other players have done. Just so happened that McKinnon was hurt bad

Fair enough if you don't like the grubby tactics he did on the field but I can't see how him talking to the ref in that situation somehow makes him a monster

Yeah, you wouldn't pick it was him.

Even more reason for the royal tongues to be waging.

So maybe kevvies job isnt as safe as we thought, I'd reckon if cam wants the job at Broncos he could just about walk into it at anytime especially if they have a season like last season

Whether you love, loath or absolutely hate Cam there’s no denying he was an exceptional player.

If he played for us we’d all be singing his praises and have a very different opinion.

The problem is that the NRL and News Corp threw and continue to throw countless dollars into the Melbourne franchise to ensure that they’re relevant in an AFL centric market.

With another QLD and possibly NZ team added to the mix in 2022/23, local Sydney clubs will quickly become less relevant.

Wests Tigers will never have that level of support from the NRL, so as an organisation we need to stand up, prove them wrong and make the finals this year.

100% and he will bring a boat load of fresh ideas how to win the comp!
