So maybe kevvies job isnt as safe as we thought, I'd reckon if cam wants the job at Broncos he could just about walk into it at anytime especially if they have a season like last season

100% and he will bring a boat load of fresh ideas how to win the comp!

I reckon he is the type of person who could attract alot of super stars to any club also. Of the Broncos have a shocker of a season they would be stupid not to have a crack at him as a coach imo

Good Riddance....IMO he and his coach are solely responsible for introducing the cheating element, aka wrestle and win at any cost into the game....I will never forget his reaction while Alex McKinnon lay there crippled.

Man I bloody hate when people say this

How the hell was Smith meant to know what happened to McKinnon? He's not a doctor for Christ's sake, he doesn't have x ray vision he can't see broken bones. He argued to the ref like he's done a million other times and like a million other players have done. Just so happened that McKinnon was hurt bad

Fair enough if you don't like the grubby tactics he did on the field but I can't see how him talking to the ref in that situation somehow makes him a monster

And I hated how he couldn’t wait to rush over to the ref to argue his point rather than to allow the ref to check on the status of play at that time...

Somehow I doubt the ref would know how badly McKinnon was hurt too... in fact when do refs ever do stuff like that? They blow a penalty and the trainers rush out there. Players argue with refs in those situations almost every game

What a terrible article by Hooper. FoxSports has it in for Smith. Some embarassing articles there. Smith has never cared about the media and never will.

I don't like the guy for the greyness of his role in the salary cap debacle and some of his 'win at all costs' moves. But listen to literally ANYONE who has known him and they will say he is a genuine family bloke.

There are people like Bennett who play the media and pretend they don't care but Smith is genuinely one of those who doesn't care about what others think of him.

Saying thinks like the NRL favouritised Melbourne or the refs supported them is all saltiness. I wonder why people like GI, Salter, Cronk, Hoffman etc don't get the same level of hatred? People on here try to portray Smith as some sort of an evil genius who orchestrated the whole salary cap, brought the wrestling into the NRL and broke Alex McKinnon's neck.

Unfortunately the forum guidelines limit how explicitly opinions of this bloke can be expressed. He carried himself like an absolute germ for the majority of his career. Pretty evident by 90% of fans' views in this thread what his legacy on the game will be.....and most of it isn't good. Would've been bashed out of the game in decades gone by playing in that style he did.
Players who are record holders etc in sports are usually revered: Tom Brady, Wayne Gretzky, Michael Jordan, Leigh Matthews, John Eales, Don Bradman, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods the list goes on. Not this bloke, he is reviled by the majority for the way he conducted himself.
He is a true specimen (of the variety that you hand over to your doctor in a plastic jar).
Good riddance to the maggot, hope he doesn't putrify our game any more in any capacity.

I dont think you know what youre talking about, Most of the guys you mentioned have been chopped down by blokes like you.

You've got yourself a real little sook going bud, it's hilarious.
Please show me where I've "chopped down" sportspeople like the above mentioned.
Before you start throwing muck around, make sure YOU know what YOU are talking about.
Having a blub for no good reason is just embarrassing.

I agree with this. And how many on here cheered loudly when Matterson was concussed? A few glass houses around the place.

There was a fair bit of media around (pretty sure McKinnon himself said it as well) that he was telling quite distinctly that he could not feel his legs.
Watching it live at the time it was blatantly obvious he was in serious trouble (perhaps not to the extent it turned out) but Smith chose to keep carrying on for a fair while when the medicab was out, neck was stabilised etc.
He is a germ. Not a bad football player.....Johns, Thurston, Lockyer at least of modern day players were better though IMO.

Now that Cam Smith is part of Rugby League Royalty, how long will it take for royal tongues to start waging and questioning the colour of the statue?

I can't see Cameron Smith in that statue at all
Looks nothing like him
For such an accomplished player you would think they would get the likeness a little better

Hope the statue has the bald spot. They could use that for a lovely sun-dial.

Both of those names leave me feeling sick. One had little skill as a player and the other had even less skill as a coach.

True, but they sure were into each other.....

I'll never forget the Alex McKinnon incident when Smith was arguing with the refs about the penalty.

This. Disgraceful display. Truly appalling.

Yeh, your comment reeks of hindsight about the outcome for McKinnon. As if Smith would know at that split-second??

He stood there for probably 15 minutes watching things unfold. He watched the poor bloke on severe distress and couldn't care less about anything other than his teams own immediate on field interests. Not a care on the world about the welfare of a young man with a probable spinal injury. That is the true measure of the man. A dog of the highest order.

Whether you love, loath or absolutely hate Cam there’s no denying he was an exceptional player.

If he played for us we’d all be singing his praises and have a very different opinion.

The problem is that the NRL and News Corp threw and continue to throw countless dollars into the Melbourne franchise to ensure that they’re relevant in an AFL centric market.

With another QLD and possibly NZ team added to the mix in 2022/23, local Sydney clubs will quickly become less relevant.

Wests Tigers will never have that level of support from the NRL, so as an organisation we need to stand up, prove them wrong and make the finals this year.
100% correct

I can appreciate that Smith’s decision was not easy to make? But why the constant fake deadlines over the last 12 months?
His final deadline being “before the start of the 2021 season” but 24hrs before kick off? Really?

They should bash a spike in his head so that he can pose for the sun dial alterations to the statue.

The statue may not be a very good likeness of him, but they can at least get the sun dial part right.

He actually waited till McKinnon was off the field till he spoke to the ref. The way you all carry on, you make it sound like he was arguing about a penalty while a player lay prone on the ground. Not sure if it’s deliberate or ignorance, but it just feeds a false narrative

A statue of this would have been much more recognisable.

That is an out and out lie that he carried on while the medicab was on the field. He asked what the penalty was for then stood back and waited till McKinnon was off
