With the top team looking good and going fairly well,no semis of course but very very close and with all our junior teams making the semis including the 20's and beam making the gf,has this been a successful year for us as an entity??

Im giving the year a b plus, would ahve been an a plus if we had made the semis in the firsts…....have to take yer hats off to those involved in finding talent and getting them together.

Very happy with all our grades.

It is great that Balmain and the U20 Tigers have made it to the Grand Final. Well done to them! But it is a long way from a success I feel for First grade. Some good wins but some terrible losses. 9th wasn't the finish we were looking for.

Simon…i have to agree.....I like most was very dissappointed the First Grade missed out narrowly on making the 8...

The organistion as a whole is going great guns....

Keebra Park won the Arrive Alive Cup after appearing in 4 of the last 5 grand finals...the talent coming out of there is amazing.....Not only that we signed 2 of the best from runners up Matraville...

The Under 20's ......where do you start....What a fantastic achievement from such a young side.....so much so 13 of the starting 17 are still eligable for NYC next year....not to mention those already playing for BRET....it has been an absolute pleasure to turn up each week and support these kids....Coach Jones has done an outstanding job and has got them all fireing at the right end off the season....very confident that they will beat Melbourne on Sunday..

State Cup teams....just watched the replay of BRET's victory over the Bears...that was guts and determination with all the players who tasted first grade this year outstanding........ With a bit of luck they could have been facing my beloved Magpies in the big one...but alas it was not to be...Wests had a fantastic season though...hey there's always next year...

I remember a thread About Wests Tigers a club falling apart at the begining of the Year.....well from where I sit....Wests Tigers leading into 2010 are the strongest they have ever been.....

Thats exactly how I see it Geo…..couldnt have said it better myself.

Very happy with how our feeders are going, and Im seriously excited about our firsts for next year.

Sorry, but a successful season can only be judged by the NRL side. Thats where the money and revenue is, thats where we all want the success. So i cant say its been a successful season.

However, i do take the point your making. But i would be more enclined to say its been a promising year rather than successful.

Success in all the lower grades, and some very good signs from the top side is all very promising, but no NRL semi's is unseccessful IMO.

Good summary Geo. Looking back at it, the most disappointing aspect were some of the team selections, particularly for 2/3 of the season. It's easy to look back in hindsight but had Moltzen played half rather than Morris…The team put in every week though and it's the first season where the Wests Tigers haven't thrown in the towel and given up out on the field. We were pretty competitive in every game we played, which was pleasing to see. A bit more depth up front in the engine room, some excellent juniors coming through the system and 2010 is looking pretty good IMO.

I said it a few weeks ago:
2009 was a successful failure

I've never been so excited about an oncoming season

This time last year we were expecting 2009 to be a season with:

* Lawrence at 6
Tuiaki in poor form
Who the hell is Blake Ayshford?
Moltzen? Average at best
Benji in poor form

Now all our guns across the park are firing, the dead wood is gone and there are some solid (not amazing… yet) signings.
good times are a come'n

Two excellent summations and spot on as well. You have to look at the glas being half full instead of half empty to really feel good inside about next year. I can feel something special happening next year and I also have a feeling that a lot of the negative posters will start changing their tunes. I for one will not say to them… "I told you so..."

It all depends how you judge it.

At the start of the season everyone was sceptical of the promise of a watershed year. However on this front it has delivered.

On a results front it was a failure

But on a progression front it was a success

Agree with everything your saying simon and geo put the gloss on it.

I just cant believe if we had 1 more win or the eels lost 1 instead of drawing.

Would have it have been classed a succesful season.?

The way i look at it is the only succesful season is
winning the comp and we are 1 of only 5 teams in the last 5 to win it.

I think Sirro is closer to the mark. I will be pumped up to be watching two of our teams in grand finals this Sunday. And the signs are good for next year.. but to miss the 8 this year, yet again.. with the talent we had available..was pretty much inexcusable; so I can't call it a successful year.

Our team has to be the most skillful and talented of the bottom 8\. So in summary, no it's not a success.

If we dont play September footy, it's an unsuccessful year IMO.

As far as NRL goes, our goal was to make the top 4 at the start of the season.

Purely on this, we fail, however, in order to achieve a top 4 finish, you require a set of smaller goals to be achieved which will lead to the end result (top 4).

**Strengths:**

a) Improved our defence (especially the back half of the season)
b) Improved our attack
c) Improved our discipline
d) Improved our intensity over the FULL 80 mins
e) Found Benji's correct position (psychologically or positionally, he just plays better in the 6 jersey)
f) Uncovered HOT talent for next season that have proven themselves in the NRL (Moltzen and Ayshford in particular)
g) Made some astute signings in Taumata and Flanagan (FOLKES!!!), while picking up a few rough diamonds on the cheap
h) Spoken to quality players on the market in Cayless, Tuqiri, Burgess etc.
i) Cleaned out the deadwood
j) FINALLY, showed some consistency!

**Weaknesses:**

a) Make the correct team selections at times during the season (I don't want to harp on this :deadhorse: )
b) Keep key players on the field
c) Provide depth when injuries struck
d) _**Perhaps**_ over-committed on players in the backline such as Brown, Daniela and Tupou (time will tell)

I think the season went ok, seeing as when our season looked over, we showed some resolve and put 6 wins in a row together to go within a whisker of the finals. Unfortunately, we had a horror run of injuries right at the end of the season and it halted our momentum. I think we achieved many of our smaller goals and for a team that finished 9th, we looked much better than some of the teams in the 8.

Next year there are no excuses. We have the depth and the players to get us into the 8 at the very least.

NYC Grand Final & State Cup Grand Final speak for themselves. As a club, I think the foundations are finally right to ensure some ongoing and consistent success in the future. All in all, I think the season is something to be happy about.

The lower grades are a stepping stone to first grade and I personally believe a club should be judged on it's top side and how well it performs. Missing the eight is the cut off between success and failure but as many have said there were positives in terms of improvment in key areas that have a lot of us looking forward to next season, but overall missing the eight is still a failure.

good times are a come'n

and you for got the best part NO JOHN MORRIS in the 1/2's

Whilst I'm am very happy that we have a gun feeder school in Keebra Park winning it's final, our u/20's have outperformed themselves and are in with a real shot of taking that title as well, Balmain have also made the final and may complete a fairytale(you just never know!!) and Western Suburbs also had a good year…..

The top grade side was NOT succesful again....

We only won half our games, and some of the losses were hard to take. We have however had a reasonable cleanout and as a result I'm looking forward to 2010.

Just how was this season successful?

Was it the fact the side missed out on the finals a 4th year in a row?

The fact that it took a **7 game** losing streak to force Sheens to move Morris out of the halves and bring in Gallant to Fullback and Moltzen into half?

The fact that Longmuir got sacked because he wanted to hold the coaching stuff accountable for their performances?

Breaking up a halves pairing of Moltzen/Marshall after the side had won 6 successive games?

The fact that we were over the salary cap and had problems assembing a 25 man squad because of this? Having to loan Fulton to ESL to lessen the cap pressure?

Oohh did i mention missing the finals again?

Yeah what a great season! :unamused:
