SO has this been a successful season now???

Incorrect.

We recruited poorly across most grades. We were charged very poorly across most grades. We had to rely on throwing kids up a grade or two well before they were ready because the club had completely failed to setup a pathway where players must earn promotions.

There really were few positives, the emergence of Galvin and Fainu, that's about it.
IMHO, we started signing much better players after that disastrous four years of the Maquiri experiment:
Korousao, Luai, Turuva, Hunt, Bird, Rudolf (pray), Asofa-Solomona (pray, pray, pray ....pray) etc?

Successful is definitely the wrong word...possibly "improvement" on prior years.

there are many instances that can be looked at in terms of success or improvement...at the end of the day most look at the results, 6 wins compare to four the previous few years, yeah its a miniscule improvement but compared to every other team (which is what this business is about - competetiveness)...it amounts to bugger all

Maguire signed Koroisau in the offseason of 2021 and Papali’i. It was his first opportunity to have the cap space for 23. Prior to that he had a third of his cap watching the games.
Api played all of 22 with the Panthers and was instrumental in their GF victory. Maguire came to us at our lowest time and also had to deal with a disorganised CEO and Board which eventually sacked themselves.

I'm becoming increasingly convinced you're Pascoe. That's exactly the sort of dribble he'd come up with.
We had the worst season in the history of the club. A spectacular failure.
The context is we had shit squads and shit coaches. There were no extenuating circumstances that the club didn't create themselves through our own incompetence.
So......there is context?

You do understand what a strawman argument is, right?

You've started an argument that doesn't exist.

Balmain is largely irrelevant to the pathways, even if it's not being said. As a former Balmain fan, it doesn't bother me one iota as Wests are all that really matters into the future.

- Wests Matts probably win the comp if Large doesn't get injured.
- Wests SG Ball finished in the top half of the comp
- Wests Tigers Flegg finished equal on points with Parra in 6th after being in the Top 4 for much of the year.

All of these where affected by, as you said, poor squad formation in first grade and Cup, a problem that takes years to get to and years to clear and improve. To that point, we had more playing up than most clubs I would suspect. We had multiple Ball-eligible players playing not only Flegg or Cup, but starting in first grade. We had 17 year-olds playing Flegg for goodness sake.

You can categorise the season however you want. But you are being hyperbolic and overly simplistic in your assessment.

We didn't have a great year overall, no doubt. But there is, simultaneously, a lot to like in a number of key areas throughout the club.

I'm becoming increasingly convinced you're Pascoe

It's interesting that simply because someone has a different perspective, you think they must have some sort of vested interest or ulterior motive.

No, I simply have a different perspective to you.

And that's ok, not all of us have the ability to assess things in fine detail.

No need to get on the high horse
Sometimes it's not necessary to assess things in fine detail (or beat around the bush for another term). Particularly when the question posed is very simple;

Q. SO has this been a successful season now???

@Kelce68 answer; We didn't have a great year overall, no doubt.

Ink, I'm not.

And none of my posts so far have referenced you.

BB came at me for daring to say that there are reasons behind some of our shortcomings and that they're worth discussing.

Also, looking at something in fine detail and 'beating around the bush' literally have nothing to do with each other. Like.... nothing.

When looking at a topic as broad as the success of an entire football club over a season, it is exactly the time to look at things in fine detail.

Asking 'why' something happened is ALWAYS the logical step after 'this thing happened'. As in, after we establish that we've had a poor season, then next step is looking at and asking 'why did we have a poor season?'. I can't believe I'm having to actually defend that.

Don't forget, earlier in the discussion, I'd mentioned, quite succinctly, that

'2024 was an (small) improvement. But last, or near last for that matter, is never a success.'

It was only once we were being barked at that the season was, as he put it 'A spectacular failure', and being accused of 'being Pascoe', for daring to say that there are some explanations behind some of our failures, that I held my ground.

Fair enough.... But as I said too... Some will just look at the final result when it comes to the question posed without too much detail.

And please excuse my beating around the bush jibe....thinking more about it... It would be damn boring just yes or no replies

All good mate.

I’ve not once heard Benji or Richo call this year successful.

Lots of talk about sticking to a plan going forward, sure.

I wouldnt say they’ve been careful not to mention the word. However, Barry O’Farrell did say that he and Richardson will drive success back when the board was removed a year ago.
I wonder what happened to the crunch meeting involving O’Farrell? It was due to happen 2 months ago.
Is Barry still with us?

As long as Richo is steering the ship mate. The Blazer brigade do more harm than good.
