So...Who stays and who goes?

I know this thread is all about people identifying who they would ditch at the end of the year, but the bottom line they have to be able to replace them and attracting quality players to a club that has been in the doldrums for a long time is a very expensive and sometimes impossible task. We have to make sure who we sign is a player that will make a difference and a player that can compete week in and week out. I don't want any more P platers and don't want anymore guys trying to turn the clock back a decade. With the new salary cap comping into play every club will have a war chest so to attract the better players will be a very hard task

Disagree on Grant, he's not on huge money and I think there's great value there having an experienced, calm head in the props. Ava is going to become the same, I don't ever see him reaching rep heights but he does his job well every week and will never be a burden on the salary cap.

Canberra, Gold Coast, Penrith, Parramatra have all been able to sign decent players in the last few years when their NRL team was going bad. So it can be done, even Manly who were going bad got players to sign, we need to be better and smarter.

Tigers cannot keep these two because there not a burden on salary cap if they do not make any impact in a game.There are quite a number of props coming of contract who would be more than a handy acquisition to the club.

Agree with jirskyr - Grant is a must keep. We need a backrower with some punch, and more strike in the centres.

I would go hard for Cooper Cronk. He wants to move to Sydney to be near his Girlfriend.

One of the best half backs I have every seen and you can build a team around him.

We need someone of his status to bring a winning culture and professionalism to our club.

As our forum members have pointed out Cronk makes other look good around him.

Like Supercoach said, it's all well and good cutting people but we need to be able to replace them.
That said, I do love me some hypotheticals so here's my list:
Luke Brooks (2 year deal on the cheap, if clubs try to force his price up let him walk)
Michael Chee Kam (good depth)
Mathew Eisenhuth (haven't seen enough but generally good raps)
Watson Heleta (not so convinced he'll make it any more but willing to give him time)
Jamal Idris (all depends on how he finishes this season, but optimistic)
Ryland Jacobs (see Eisenhuth)
Jack Littlejohn (good clubbie, prefer him as utility over Hunt or Rankin)
Wesley Lolo (seems steady, hold down NSW Cup spot while we evaluate Tatola, Paseka)
Matt McIlwrick (good first impression, beats Ballin for me and helps Liddle. Defense was a very nice surprise)
David Nofoaluma (see post in his contract thread)
Ava Seumanufagai (solid, bit of a man crush, fun name to say)
Bayley Sironen (better scouts than me think he'll make a go of it, hopefully better than Curtis)
Junior Tatola (Felise's partner in crime in the 20's, hopefully he'll find his feet)
James Tedesco (only slight exaggeration to say our future depends on his signature)
Aaron Woods (passionate about the club, good leader, good player)

I'll get shot down for this but I want to move on from Moses. We'll likely get priced out/up and I wish him all the best in what I'm sure will be a successful career, but Teddy is clearly a machine and I think better supported in better wingers and forwards, halves just need to get him the ball. We don't have the coaches or structure of a Melbourne to fill in bitsers around a top quality spine, we need to do everything we can to help Teddy succeed - good, hard running backs and forwards who can defend their man and halves who can kick reliably. Moses will likely be a hell of a player, and he's young as hell but all I'm seeing is Shaun Johnson and Benji at the moment.
I don't want to be the current Warriorsm, or Tigers of old; the Cowboys have a once-in-a-lifetime talent in Thurston and have built an era of sustained success around him. He's had some great players around him (Bowen, Scott) but at the end it largely boils down to him.
I'd seriously go after Widdop and Tyrone Roberts. Both players have exceptional kicking games, are capable defenders and have the capacity to play beyond their means. Plenty here have talked down Widdop but I think Saints have bigger problems than him. Gold Coast seem set on Elgey/Taylor so here Roberts would have a real chance to kick on and cement himself as the number one halfback. If Brooks develops like everyone hopes then it's a pick of Widdop or Roberts for the 6, but I'd feel more comfortable (and our bank account would too) with either of the three as our halves.

BB, I may be wrong but for the WT with the team we have, if I could have a choice for this season I would still stick with Grant.

Absolutely I do not rate Kane Evans above Grant. Evans is a bit of a show pony in that he pulls off a big hit or manages to make a break once per game. Grant is a workhorse who gives it his best shot to make ground with every carry, and gets his hands dirty in defence. WT do not need a show pony at the moment imo.

We need a pig who can hit, drop & PTB to bring players like Grant/Evans into the game more.

I've highlighted who I would keep. I would definitely be going hard for Gareth Widdop, I think he and Moses would complement each other very well in the halves.

Agree with this. No way Widdop too inconsistent which is Brooks problem. I would try to poach Sezer or Austin from Canberra. Sezer is a local Bulldogs Jnr would fit in well.

Widdop is just as consistent as Seizer

Sezer is a steady half that is a good defender, kicks goals and has a good kicking game. No world beater is Sezer but Widdop is a runner at his best which is too alike with Moses.

Matagi has been doing that really well for Parra so far this season. Nathan Brown and Sam Moa are also good with quick PTB's. Nuggets with low centres of gravity.

He's the real brains behind the Storm, Smith does very little in a game, just shovels it to Cronk mainly, and Cronk does the rest. Which is good as it doesn't interfere too much with Smith referring the game.
