So why did we let Hodgo go again?

Something about him wanting a 2 year contract and us being only willing to offer him a 1 year on account of his age?

Funny how we then go and (allegedly) offer a contract to Lote, who is turning 34 next year.

If we had have given Hodgo his 2 year deal, at the conclusion of it he would have been 32 years old. Lote has been injured for two seasons straight, while Hodgo was fit and hindsight has shown us that his best was arguably ahead of him, as he went on to be the best player in the Super League (and despite that league's flaws, I guarantee the best player in Super League is more than good enough for the NRL).

Yet we are poised to offer Utai and Tuqiri new deals, despite being older than Hodgo was when we knocked him back based on age.

We also went on to have a 4 year struggle with the fullback position, culminating in having the worst fullback in the NRL every time we had one, for all but 30 minutes of round 1, 2012.

Tell me again how Tim Sheens knows what the hell he is doing?

he doesnt. sheens cant man manage.
he is good at developing plans but doesnt know how to EFFECTIVELY react accordingly.
as someone else has said, he seems to play the top 20 players, even if it means completely reshuffling the squad to do so, which i dont agree is a good coaching tactic.

That's what i was trying to say yesterday at the time Hodgo deserved more than 1 year contract , but yet resigns Tuquiri :crazy

How he can justify offloading a 30 year old Wests Junior, Club Captain, Origin rep fullback in good fitness and form to replace him with nobody because he is too old and then offer a deal to a 33 year old broken down winger (rep winger mind you) a few years later despite us having four good wingers on the books. Ack this is Sheens. I pray he goes.

I'm with you Macdougall. If Sheens is going ? Reported by the reliable source of the Telegraph.
Then why is there so much unrest with our players, when we are still reviewing our season , so we are lead to believe.
Or is that the reason for no official announcement on the tigers site about Heigno, Ryan etc…

It was a million years ago, move on…prob ended up doing hodgo a favour, he has been on good money ever since, he stayed he would ahve retired years ago.

Hodgo was busted ..leave it there extended his income in the ESL for many years.

Yeah he's totally busted. So busted that he's still playing in the ESL and carving and is a man of steel winner.

I hate Tim Sheens.

don't forget Luke Burt, or doesn't he count now he is retired  .

as for Hodgo, my wife still very annoyed/angry/dirty at wests-tigers for letting him go.

it was great for Hodgo to move on, go overseas, prolonged his footy career.
and well done to him

sheens has his faults, but we let hodgo go at the right time. nrl is a different game to esl.
what sheens didnt do is find a suitable replacement etc etc… not going to get into it we all know whats happened since.

I don't normally come to sheen's aid but at the time Hodgo wasn't playing anywhere near his best. He was slow had no impact on kick returns and was a step behind the pace of NRL.

Most people at the time while sad to see him go new that it was the best for him.

The only way i could have seen him staying with us if he was used at half and from what i know he didn't want play at 5/8 or half

in hindsight, this wouldnt have been such a bad idea. but as a fullback he was done.

Well I disagree about that. We clearly had no plan to replace him (or at least our plan sucked). That's not even the point. The point is why was Sheens so hard on a 30 year old, club stalwart in a position that we needed covered yet he throws contracts to 33 year old guy in a position we need to get rid of deadwood from to allow our new guys in.

The real reason SHEENS let hodgo go, was that he rated Shannon McDonald better than him. He was supposed to replace him and be the next big thing.

boy i bet that crystal ball was a little cloudy that day

Hahah what a fool. That makes it even worse. McDonnell never did a thing to indicate he was any good.

And even so, if that really is the reason, Sheens NEVER persevered with him. Same old story. Miller is the current model.

Also he only stayed for about half a season the year after Hodgo left and saw almost no first grade, so I reckon that's a load of crap anyway.
