Fair play to Lucas Herrington for having the courage to step up and take that penalty. He deserves credit for that.
He missed, but he willingly put himself in the firing line. He accepted the pressure when plenty of others have hidden.
But here's the bigger question: how is an 18-year-old centre-back taking a penalty in a World Cup shootout for Australia?
Where were the senior players?
Where were the experienced heads meant to carry that responsibility?
What was the coach thinking?

Mohamed Salah couldn't hold back the tears after leading Egypt into the World Cup Round of 16 for the first time in the nation's history.
Those weren't just tears of joy. He's had many painful setbacks, including two Africa Cup of Nations final defeats, but Salah never stopped believing, he never stop trying. He had already delivered Egypt's first-ever World Cup win.
Now he's captained his nation to another historic milestone and won Man of the Match in his nation's most important match of all time.

Egypt’s penalty prep was different.
Just before the most important shootout in the nation's history, their players were spotted watching Kylian Mbappé’s penalty against Levante from January on a laptop.
Why?
Australia goalkeeper Mathew Ryan was at Levante, and Mbappé had scored that penalty past him.Egypt then scored every single penalty.
Fine margins.

Beach was match ready .. if you were gonna sub off your goalie to prepare for pen shootouts maybe do it at the start of extra time, not at the end
In our final qualifying match for the 2022 World Cup against Peru we put Redmayne on just before the shootout and it worked. Ultimately it was the shots over the bar that were the difference

We were lucky to get through to the penalty shootout when Mohamed Hany scored that own goal, especially after he had been knocked out minutes earlier.

Popovic will be gone after that shambles of a coaching effort. Postecoglou should have been our coach to begin with.
