Someone explain this to me...

Flash back thirteen months to the beginning of last season. We were told that Benji and Moltzen had been training as the halves combination all through the offseason. Four weeks in and Sheens blew it all up, leading to a clusteryouknowwhat of a season that saw something like seven or eight different halves combos.

Beginning of this season we are told Miller will be our halfback. Four weeks in, with the team a reasonable 2-2, he is dropped to reserve grade. I realise at this point that with him still young his size Miller is something of a liability in defence (although I also remember hearing that he was quite a solid defender, so whatever), but how is it possible to go into the season with an apparently solid gameplan and then throw it in the can after just one month?

Last year when they signed Braith and Sheens (when he was still coach) said he would be using him at halfback, it induced a lot of groans. Then when Potter took over and said Miller would be the halfback everyone was happy. But now Potter has done exactly what Sheens would have done.

And now with Benji injured, what is he doing to do? Is he going to bring Miller back in and move Braith to 5/8? Or is he going to take a completely different course and move Moltzen to the #7, even though there's been no hint that this might happen? IMO Miller was unfairly dropped, because they didn't have the common sense to figure out before the season began that it should be him and Robbie running the show, with Benji using his main asset, his speed as a ballrunner.

Couple of things:

- Anasta trained at halfback up until Christmas as Miller was injured.
- The club gave Miller an opportunity early in the season. He has not blown his chance, it just highlighted some areas of his game that needed improvement. Potter on record saying this was expected and he was always likely to play some state cup.
- This is slightly different to last season. When Tedesco was injured, Sheens changed the halfback and the fullback, 50% of the spine. Potter has just changed the halfback, replacing a rookie with an adaptable veteran.

I hope he brings Miller back and plays him at 6\. Retains stability and gives Miller the chance to play behind a competitive forward pack.

moltz never played wing or fullback before sheens. he was solid before got injured in the halves.

it would be common sense to somewhat put him back where he belongs and get tedesco off the wing into fb.

1\. Ted
6\. Moltz
7\. Braith

Can bring in nofu from 20s to cover wing.

would be great to see moltzen finally use his long kicking game.

All i know is Moltzen is not a fullback and his positional play for bombs is worrying , Imo Tedesco is being wasted on the wing as when we are attacking he could be hanging around centre field choosing when to come into the attack just like Hodgo used to also Tedesco is great with the bomb's.
I don't think Miller is the answer but then again hasn't been given long enough there one would say , but i would trust the judgement of Sheens and Potter if they both can see that Miller is not the answer for halfback.
This halfback issue has been going on forever.

100% right mate. Fair chance Jake will get another chance this week assuming Benji is out. Miller certainly hasn't failed his audition as such. More so a case of assessing his ability at this level and now giving him a chance to work on it at a more comfortable level.

Its not millers defence , he is a solid defender. In 4 games he offered nothing in attack, other than turn blokes inside to get smashed. Its about time people relize that he will not cut it at this level.

I do agree. Moltzen has that extra zip and must selected at 5/8 outside Anasta.

Its seems that young Brooks is being penciled in as our long term no7, okay it might not be this year but I would expect him to be our no7 within about 12 months, so with that in mind it would be unlikely Miller will hang around beyond his contract that expires at the end of the season. The point, this year is all about laying the foundations for next year and beyond so it seem pointless to persist with Miller

Its the only attacking move he knows!

Miller need to step up quickly. The newer half back such as Reynolds and DCE have set the bar soo high that it make Miller look hopless. He need to back himself, go to the line, step, get his passing game going and show everyonr he belongs. Unforetunatley due to our poor start to the season, we don't have the luxury of being patient. We need to make a move soon, or top eight will be too hard. Potter has a few options he has to think about. Moltzen, Tedessco, Sirro, Miller and a bench forward. Come on Mr Potter, make the right call.

newer? like joey, thurston and cronk? great halfbacks aren't a new invention mate

think potter did make the right one, at least for the time being. Could definitely change if miller gets confidence and a feel for the step up and makes his way back to 1st grade. Potter said that people like thurston and DCE also got dropped to reserve great at first
