Someone make a case for Garner...

He’s probably only a shade or two better than MCK, which still isn’t very flattering. Is his brother still with the club?

Give Tuilagi a go

He has been really impressive in state cup IMO.

Has NRL size already, also.

Is he on an NRL contract though?

Development contract.
He’s better at this stage of his game than Chee Kaam and Garner combined,
I know that Simpkins had a dud game today but I would still consider him better value for second row or lock than those two.

Was impressed with Amone today will be in contention in a couple of weeks I say .

He looked very good...but is a prop it seems.

We seem stacked for props...and absolutely struggling for backrowers.

Someone make a suitcase for Garner.....put it in his hand and wave him goodbye.
Made a couple of decent tackles today but hopefully he is not in the team next year when we have some cash to buy someone substantially better.

Wasnt watching him that closely didn't seem that bad.

Made the try saver on moses, seem to remember almost the whole team letting him drift across field. Least he ran out an had a go

Depends on what you mean by 'had a go'.

He ran for 52 meters, not a single strong carry, and two weak D attempts led to tries.

Other moments he was okay, but the other stuff is a lot for a team to carry. As I said, when was the last time anyone saw Garner do a "let me have the ball and get out of my way" hit up or a hard carry off our line? Never?

Another pretender that thinks he is a top level performer ...injury cover at best!

The hard to fathom thing is Madge dropped him a year or so back...for all these reasons.

Yet, with not a single thing changed or improved, Madge now picks him every single week AND plays him 80 mins...

We don't have any one to replace him. If you think his defensive efforts are bad, his replacement, Chee Kam, once missed 12 tackles in a game. Our only hope is that Blore comes in and immediately does well.

Yes, but surely we could at least put a backrower on the bench? LL runs out of gas and Garner is borderline at best.

Agreed re MCK...he is a poor man's Garner!

(A poor man's Garner says it all)

Poor roster management isn't it, When mck is next man up.

What 4th drop ? Chee kam is 29 FYI . That’s crazy to me . But he’s alright for 4th drop .

I've never played so I dunno how this goes but how do forwards take a hit up? Does a controlling player call their number? Do they just run over to the vicinity of the ball and put their hand up?

I wondered this today because we have a lot of size and some talent in our forwards yet guys like Garner never get their hand on the ball. I always figured it was the controlling players that called the shots and made plays for their forwards.

Yeah we haven’t fired many genuine shots over on that side... dunno what’s happened to Garner’s offload/back-against the grain run

Moses drifted across field today and it was the backrower who should have smashed him...but Garner came weakly with an arm grab.

Garner slow off the line for another try.

Hit ups? Garner went for 55 m...least of any Tiger's forward except Twal, who basically matched him in 30 mins.

**Has anyone 'ever' seen Garner do a dirty hit up? A 'give me the ball, let me work here" hit up?**

Yet he plays 80 mins a week.

Some nice cover late, but your standard backrower could have done that. Garner is good for 3-4 bad plays a week and, again, has anyone ever seen him do a hard hit up when we are on the back foot? At the very most, he is a bench player. Really, he is a state cup player who covers for you a few games a year.

Fatally...he does not cover for his half also. Whoever he is paired with gets isolated way too often on the line.

Can anyone make a case for him? I feel like 3-4 players are holding us back right now. We are close to a good team, but carrying some liabilities. He is one of them.

That first try Moses ran across field and behind at least two of his own players. Should have been a penalty to Wests

Just watching the replay and he actually ran behind 3 of his own players. Nothing said about that.

Haven't watched the game yet but just in the highlights Moses did that to Garner on two occasions. The first when he kicked to set up a try, he simply was too light-footed for Garner (and Twal) which is just going to happen with little guys against bigger guys. The two who should have smashed him IMO were Lucy and Brooks just before he put the kick in but they sat back.
The other was a poor attempt and Moses simply fended/bounced off him and went on to set something up.
He really does seem to have hit his ceiling with us unfortunately and his really good games have too many average ones between them.

We probably just weren't smart enough to push up and make it look like a shepherd...

I reckon if we had used the same move Klein would have blown his whistle and penalised us immediately .The only ref i have time for is Cechin at least he seems to be impartial

According to someone on this forum after the manly trial " he reminds me of a young Steve Menzies". Doesn't matter how bad my day is that will always make me laugh
