SOO - the punch up

The rules in the (any) sporting arena are different to the real world and thats the way it should stay. I have no problem with what Gallen did. Miles pushed and shaped up to him so Gallen clocked him first.
My 16yr old daughter LOVES league and nearly jumps out of her skin when she sees a fight in any game. She also knows the difference between doing that on the field and doing it in the real world.
If anyone is really that horrified about two punches, pls go and watch another sport.

Gallen has only been suspended for one match. How long was Adam Blair suspended for his punch up in 2011 with Stewart? No wonder Blair no longer shows any aggression when playing - he knows that the slightest misdemeanour such as his leg pull against Manly this year will see him heavily suspended. Not so for Gallen, he seems protected.

origin is granted special provisions with suspensions and stuff. Plus blair carried on after being sin binned.

But you're right, origin players are protected (e.g. slater and cronk this year).

Please doo - gooders, dont read too much into it.

Its Origin….no ones forcing you to watch, Im sure there'll be another Home & Away marathon on same time next origin broadcast

Just enjoy it for christs sake

So, we have the "premiere" game on TV, watched by seemingly millions of people, with the best players on show to play at the top level of the game and thus set the highest standard of performance and some think a punch up is OK?

Yes, it is ok.

And the player involved doesn't even get 10m in the bin? Takk about double standards…

as a nsw fan, and absolutely so glad someone took on myles (the same grub who was elbowing our players in the face all game before this incident) i believe gallen should have been sin binned.

And before anyone starts to talk about players wearing skirts…I believe there was an all in brawl at the end of the U16's match, so obviously RL in well on its way in setting a different standard for origin, where punch ups are part and parcel of the game...

i think punch ups have a place in origin. its not setting a standard, its always been part of the game.

sports like UFC and boxing occur all the time. kids watch fake wrestling (which is made to look real). if parents and coaches cant talk their kids out of engaging in fights because they saw it in origin, they need to take a closer look at what they are doing themselves as role models. look at their communication with these kids.

its not up to these players to set a standard for anyones children. its a sport, its a spectacle, and honestly i'd say 500,000 people tune in purely to see if theres a fight or not.

if you dont like it, dont watch it. stick to nrl games which are refereed a bit more strictly. im ok with the two games (NRL and Origin) being treated differently.

Absolutely. Ive already warned my young bloke it's not on, just like ive warned him about pulling off the latest WWE moves on his mates. Like i said earlier, the greatest bit of leadership ive seen in years.

This hoohaa is all a smokescreen… Why wasnt Gallen charged for the Swinging Arm???

Easy... He wouldve got a grade 3-4 charge for that as it is obvious he has come in as the third man and aimed for Myles Jaw. He wouldve got 5 weeks for that, downgraded to 3 weeks for early plea, followed by the charge for Stryking and another 2 weeks [no downgrade due to his carryover points from the first charge]

5 Weeks and he misses the rest of the Series… Stitch-Up!!!

Well what about Myles leading with his head and twisting legs???

At least Gallen stood toe to toe with him.

Myles is a cat of the highest order, and got belted when he stood in front of a man.

And Im loving all this talk about a QLD payback…..they had 40 mins to do it on Wednesday and did nothing.

Bring on game 2.........cant wait for the payback,lols......pffffffft.

Apparently hodges has come out and said its on in game 2\. However gallen is bigger then him so that means hodges won't have a bar of him. He'll prob pick on Pearce or Maloney

A bit like Fifita made a beeline towards Cronk and Slater everytime there was a scuffle?

I really wonder whether there would have only been a one match suspension, origin or no origin, Gallen or someone else, if a serious concussion injury had resulted from the pre-meditated punches. Food for thought.

look at all the origin games and tell me when there has not been a punch up. origin is built on the hate that each state has for one another. players bleed for each other out there. The fight was going to happen one way or another Paul Gallen just got in there first. If you dont like fights rugby league is not your code then mate because it is for the men and they play like men. Come on even Nate Myles said that is what the fans want to see. So i don't mind it to be honest.

How many weeks did Watmough and Tilse get the other week? Why weren't they sent to the bin?

Why? Because the referees showed some common sense, as they did in Origin. Don't give me this Origin has special rules BS when it happened at NRL level only 2 weeks ago.

Why didn't Queenslanders cry foul when Tate hit a defenseless Bird last year? Or when "Third man in" Thaiday throws punches at any chance he can?

Two guys went toe-to-toe, lasted less than 10 seconds, no third man throwing punches, was separated and didn't continue. Play on.

It wouldn't have amounted to anything if the skirts from Queensland had won. They're blowing up deluxe in the papers up here and it's hilarious what sooks they are being.

Suck it up Queensland, suck it up.

Spot on 100%. There will be no legitimate toe-to-toe paybacks in Origin 2 because the QLDers know that the NSW boys would towel them up in a stink- especially in the forwards. Now that Croker isn't there the QLD pack feel physically intimidated IMO. That is why Myles didn't even bother to retaliate:he didn't wanna get sat on his arse if it got serious. And watch Thaiday run in and conveniently stop behind Myles so he didn't cop one as well, it was hilarious.
If you lined the forwards up against their opposite NSW would easily win almost all of the stoushes 1 on 1 (Smith, Shillington, Thaiday, Harrison, Te'o are the prime examples and would be brutalized). QLD seem to know that and are a little frightened IMO.
Expect some Hodges cheap shots in Origin 2, he is a master at it and then standing 30 metres away from anybody and challenging them to a stink. QLD are running scared. Which is why Papalii might get a run at Suncorp -to try and add some mongrel and intimidation to his timid fellow pigs.

hahahaha… This is exactly the attitude Qld hope NSW go into Game 2 with.

I dont think they realised they lost the second half yet, and their Forwards had nothing once Hag's adjusted our defence.

This will go to a Decider... And where due down there!!!
