Souths 2014 Premiers

Let south's enjoy their moment.
It's a great achievement to win the comp.
Well done to all involved with the club.

It's a massive effort to win the comp and become premiers.
It's another to successfully defend it.

My thoughts, for what they're worth:
pleased for Souths and their long suffering fans;
Sam Burgess' effort was full of courage;
Josh Reynolds is a liability and horribly over rated;
Hodkinson…? Did he play? See comment above;
Brooksy can take SOO spot in 2015 with a better WT "team" around him;
use of " " around team in comment above is intentional ....not sure how Taylor et al can or will make it happen;
pleased for Grant Jones who coached our 20s to a premiership and who is now in the Souths fold;
none of our forwards, apart from Robbie or Woodsy at his manic best, would have done what Sam Burgess did;
the best coaches and support staff/structures get the best results and bring "no-names" into potential stardom ...Avaa'au, Koroisau, Alex Johnston, Dylan Walker etc..... ;
Penrith, Brisbane and possible Parra will be the big improvers in 2015 and should be tight in the early markets for grand final winners;
I wouldn't bet on Souths, Manly, Dogs, Cowboys, Roosters to be the 2015 champs. I think the winner will not come from them, therefore there's a void to be filled by someone.....hello!!.....Tigers...are you there?

My comments:
Souths were probably the best team this year so fair enough win - though not a fan of the team, the supporters or the style they play.

How the Dogs got anywhere near the GF still has me totally flabbergasted.

Who do I need to do repeatedly to get James Graham in a WT jersey?

Sam was brave but George outplayed him IMO.

Trent H and Josh R missed the bus to the ground… they can keep walking as far as I am concerned.

Wish Roy and HG was still calling, if I had to hear one more time about Reynolds junior not making the march or Warrens super frigging man crush on Burgess I was going to take an ice pick to my ear drums

Souths style was to run five mountains and kick - and when you remember the number of errors a sub par Dogs side made and they were in it with 10 to go - any smart side they played a smart expansive game with solid defense would have beaten them IMO.

Go luck to them, cmon 2015

Having waited so long to see Wests win the comp I can relate entirely to the euphoria and relief they are experiencing.
Let's see how they go next year without big Sam and Teo ... Two very big losses. But they won't be thinking of that right now !

I can easily see them outside the top 4 next yr. I don't think its a stretch to say they could decline like the Dragons did after 2010\. Thus how important Burgess is to them.

There's no doubt they deserved their premiership, but that doesn't mean they don't remain one of the most despised teams to long term Tigers supporters. It's the nature of a community/geographically based competition. It exists between Saints and the Sharks, Penrith & Parra and used to be equally intense between Norths and Manly. Dismissing history and the role it plays in galvanising supporters is short sighted and ignorant, if not intellectually lazy

Souths he captured the essence of the game's future, where bigger, faster and stronger has/is supplanting skill, adventure, as well as the notion of risk and reward. Conservatism rules, even when scrums compress defences and offer much more space. Employ battalions of decoys and you might create space, but more often than not it's bash three or four over the gain line, run a couple of decoys, then select the appropriate kick. Souths have mastered it, good luck to them

It was really awesome listening to Gus and Rabs calling the game. Its also great to see what a bumbling idiot Brad Fittler has become since retiring. Did he remove a few screws after leaving the game?

Channel 9 really needs to up their game. Living in NZ I had to put up with their sh*t coverage. Love fox 20x more - they cover an unbiased opinion most of the time, with decent analysis and good pre, mid and post game coverage.

Dazza, Roy and HG did call the game, I listened to it. About 100,000% better than listening to Rabs and Gus waffle on.
