It's easy to scoff, but Rusty bringing in the Hollywood celebs and putting bunnies scarves around their necks must play a big role in attracting fringe fans to their club, people who otherwise wouldn't show that much interest.

Dare I say it, females

In my 40 + years experience supporting rugby league, I have noticed that women have always been there in their thousands supporting their team - either at the ground, watching on TV, participating in tipping comps and in discussions at various work places etc. Not to mention, working behind the scenes throughout the various clubs. I hardly think they need to be attracted to the game by bringing in Hollywood celebs, but I see your point.

I didn't mean to suggest that every female that goes to the footy is there to see a celeb, I know there are plenty that know the rules, follow the game as passionately as a male

But anything to get a few more people on board when they otherwise wouldn't show an interest

I know you didn't mate. You're right though, the Bunnies' and Crowe's marketing tactics would have certainly pulled in many fringe dwellers, both male and female and particularly the younger brigade.

I think football forums are a different kettle of fish, Ink. There could be many reasons for the lack of regular female participation on these forums - one being that women, in general, have less time to indulge in such leisure pursuits on a regular basis as men do (note, I said in general, it's not set in concrete lol). Then there's women like my niece, who is a massive WT fan, goes to as many games and WT events as she can, but she said she just isn't interested in participating in the forum - too many other things to do. In any case, I wouldn't have a clue as to the gender of many of the participants on here what with all the weird user names. The one thing I do know is, when you go to the games, you will always find thousands of women there, as there has always been - have a good look around next time

Can we not sound like sore losers, they have been a bottom team for a long time so let them enjoy it and I wish them all the best for the semis they are a brilliant team, as for us the tide will turn . At least we have experienced winning a grand final for South's it's been 42 years.
Hate sour grapes supporters

Pretty sure it has nothing to do with sour grapes, the OP was just stating the obvious- success breeds bandwagoners. If those same people are still hanging around the place through the bad times then good luck to 'em. Can't really say that Maddens mrs looked too interested in the game.

Maybe so FTB….but you got it oh so wrong with this

Funny thing is you never really see any sight of Russ when Souths are losing.

But yeah, everyone loves a winner.
But Rustys been there thru good times and bad

Yep I am aware that he was there when they were struggling. It just seems that in the last 3 or 4 years you only see him sitting out on the grandstand doing his Gladiator "thumbs down" BS etc when they are in front. Maybe it is due to the TV stations not showing him much when they are getting touched up but he seems to disappear from sight during losses. Nothing s#*#s me more than someone who whoops it up and soaks up the backslaps during a win but slinks into his hole during a loss.

He made something like 6 movies last year. He wasn't around the club much at all. I know he did fly back from the set of one of his movies to attend one their semi final games last year. I don't think anyone can question his commitment to the club.
