Souths will never win a GF with Madge as their Coach

For all his knockers regarding his weight George Rose continually bends the line and has the stamina of a very fit man…he will be a handy pickup for Melbourne....

I tend to agree with most here. IMHO i yhink the following:
1\. Manly's half completely overshadowed souths for most of the game, especially second half
2\. I tend to think that souths do try to dominate the ruck too much as their main objective. And when a side holds them they don't seem to have a lot wide - why? I don't know with Inglis and Farrell - but i don't rate Goodwin or sutton - just me
3\. I don't think the coaches mum had anything to do with it. I am sure they would have wanted to win for the coach and family and after getting put to 14-0? They closed up shop, became pedestrian and couldn't go with manly once possession equalized and manly got into their stride.
4\. Souths will be a force again next year but i do think they need to be more creative and not just rely on size. Reynolds will continue to mature.

Mate Magde's Mum dying would of had a huge effect

Have played a game on the same day of a close family members death and you are just all over the place Scored arguably the best try I ever scored and started bawling afterwards

It'd be harsh to pin in at the coaches feet, I'd say they'd never win a comp with this squad. Sure, part of that is with recruitment, but they just seem to be lacking that next gear the other teams have found in the finals. Spending too much on superstar players has generated a huge gap between their best and the rest, and bar Inglis (whose form petered off severely towards the end of the year), lack strike out wide. They're a decent team, but unless their stars are on song they don't have the depth to cover it.

Sure each there own view here but as professionals I don't think it should have. I also played in a grade GF a week after my old man died and I used it as motivation - I know my old man and family wouldn't have wanted me to blow an important game over him - he would have been more proud that I sucked it up and played to my potential and not used his passing as an excuse.
But hey this is not an argument, as I said above everyone entitled to their view and also to how adversity effects them as individuals.
