Special Request

Merry Christmas & Happy 2014.
I've probably posted this in the wrong place but I have a special request. For Christmas I was shouted a ticket to watch the Tigers play in Sydney. (Of course the real motive is a shopping trip in Sydney for the missus but we'll let that one ride.)

I'm trying to work out which game to go to. Can you please give me some advice:
1) Which is the easiest ground to get to from airport area accommodation with two small kids on public transport?
2) Which ground has the best atmosphere? And is it fairly easy to get to?

Any advice will be welcome as, other than the zoo and city centre, I'm completely out of place in Sydney.
Thanks in anticipation

there is a train to campbelltown from airport every 15 min- total time would be just under an hour imo
anz is not too far away either.. 30-45 mins but u gotta catch 3 trains
leichardt would be a [This word has been automatically removed] to get to

atmosphere? depends on ur taste really.. if you like big stadium with probably a lot of people, good seats, good toilets etc. than anz would be a good bet

my preference would be a campbo game- prefer the cowboys game coz then you might actually go out with a smile on your face.

hope this help

Unless you are really concerned about facilities, Leichhardt wins hands down as an experience IMO, especially on a Sunday afternoon of which you have three matches to choose from this year.

The atmosphere is second to none, you are a lot closer to the action (can really hear the hits and players), and we have a good win ratio at the ground If you are staying in the city, no problem getting a bus to the ground.

If you want to sit in regimented rows of plastic seats in a concrete cavern with no soul (that does have great amenities), choose ANZ.

You would be much better off staying in the city, especially as your wife wants to shop and you are close to the harbour. Nearby airport stays are only good for long transit times or flight delays.

x2\. Easy decision.
It's pretty easy to get to, just get a train from the airport station to Central, then a bus to Leichhardt.
You've gotta do the Norton street to ground walk, it adds to the game, you'll be surrounded by other Tigers.
As for which game, they are all good options (except for v Titans)
I think maybe against Cronulla, it'll be built up as a good game, Tigers v Ex-Tigers and all that.

Just remember you have two small kids NT Tiger, Leichhardt might not be the best option.

Consider staying at the Meriton Apartments in Campbell Steet near central Station. I come down from the country to the games and stay there often. It is very central, great accommodation and mention 'tigers' when booking on the web sight and you get a discount. Then train to Lidcombe or bus to Leichhardt.
There is accommodation near ANZ stadium but it is not handing for shopping.

probably anz, not sure how many games you're going to but grab that 8 games for $50 membership and catch a couple of trains there.

leichardt shouldn't be too much of a hassle since you'll know when to get off if you follow all the other fans.

campbelltown is also pretty easy, just catch a straight train, but it takes a little longer.

Your most important thing to do is to make sure there is no trackwork on the weekend youre here…theyr often cancelling trains on weekends and replacing them with buses as slow as a wet week

Shopping in Pitt St Mall/Westfield is the best if you are a visitor to the city. Access to both shopping and Leichhardt Oval is pretty easy from around Central station.
You can't beat a Sunday game at Leichhardt. Plead for a seat in the Keith Barnes stand if you think the weather will be dicey. Although reserved seating there are usually spare seats. See you there!

I recommend getting accommodation NOT around the airport. The suburbs around that area are nothing special. Best to stay in/around the CBD

Thanks everyone for your advice.
It looks like we'll be staying in the city and the game will either be Raiders at Campbelltown or Panthers at Leichhardt. I'd love to watch the Tigers smash the Raiders, but it looks like Leichhardt might be easier to get to? Thanks for the advice about taking kids to Leichhardt but it shouldn't be too much for my eight year old, he'll manage. Mum and my daughter have pulled out already. See you there, whichever it is. Cheers & Go Tigers!

Mate I live near ctown… Love going to the stadium... But if your making the trek for a one off. Make it leichardt and stand on the hill. The atmosphere can be electric.

Campbelltown is also a lot further from the city than Leichhardt. From the city, a train will take an hour to CTown, a bus to Leichhardt is 20mins.

Another thing to consider though, is usually after Campbelltown games the boys go back into the Leagues Club for the post-match function. Would give you and your little bloke a chance to mingle with the team. Doesn't happen after any other games.

This year they might go back to Five Dock after games at Leichhardt seeing as they are on a Sunday afternoon.
Although for some reason there they often go and hide in a private room away from the public
