Squad for the Auckland 9's

Last year Taylor said he wanted to keep the main players to sydney to work on combos, but that in 2016 he would send a stronger team. Interesting to see if he sticks to that. Personally I think it would be good for Moses and brooks to play. Give them some confidence playing in so much space

So he did. I'll be very disappointed if we send a similar team to last year. They gave us nothing to cheer about last year in any competition, they could at least send a competitive team for us to cheer for.

recall when we lost Sironen for about 8 weeks due to a 9's injury…

A team of fringe first graders for me.........

Just disappointing entering a competition knowing your no chance of winning it with blokes left at home.

Squad will be looking something like :

Moses
Rankin
Naiqama
Addo Carr
Lawrence ©
Cherrington
Sue
Ava
Sirro

Parahi, Felise, Chee Kam, Hunt and Heleta on the bench.

Throw in a couple of younger guys to round out the squad of 18 and I would be happy enough with that. They probably wouldn't have the class to win the whole comp but I think they would give a good account of themselves with the added plus of giving the fans an early opportunity to look at some of our new recruits.

I'd go with:
\
\
Rankin
Simona
Kharwin
Naquima
Addo-Carr
Satterthwaite
Moses
Brooks
Cherrington
Madness
Griffin
Buchanan
Graham
Parahi
Lawrence
C. Sironen
Halatau
Chee-Kam

You have to start the Positive vibes for season 2016 … they have every chance of winning! . There in with a shot regardless of the team selected. :sign: :supporter:

Does that mean surprises as in big names playing, or surprises as young guys being brought up? Interesting.

50% chance of winning every game

Surprises? We're picking Martin and Seve?

Or more realistically, we're sending an u21 team except the required overage high earning player quota (Lawrence and maybe Halatau)

Wests Tigers have today announced an 18-man squad to travel to New Zealand for the 2016 Auckland Nines tournament at Eden Park.

Chris Lawrence will captain the side for the second consecutive year, with the two-day event taking place on February 6 and 7.

With last year’s side having a successful tournament by making it through to the semi-finals, 10 players from that team will be making the trip again in 2016.

Six players in the team will play their first NRL Auckland Nines tournament, including rookies Joshua Addo-Carr, Tyler Cassel and Watson Heleta.

The tournament will be the first hit-out in Wests Tigers colours for a number of new recruits such as Michael Chee-Kam, Justin Hunt and Jack Littlejohn.

It’s side boasting youth but also experience and is headlined by exciting players including Tim Simona, Kevin Naiqama and Manaia Cherrington.

Wests Tigers Head Coach Jason Taylor said that the tournament is a good opportunity for a number of players to show their credentials ahead of the NRL season.

“There are a number of guys who will travel to Auckland that are in contention for Round 1 positions,” Taylor said. “While this tournament is played in a much different format to the average NRL game, it provides these players with another opportunity to put their best foot forward before the year commences.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing a lot of our new recruits in action and also a few of the younger players who have stepped up into the NRL squad.

“It’s an exciting style of rugby league that will be played over the weekend and I feel that this squad has a good mix of both youth and experience.”

Wests Tigers have been drawn in the Rangitoto Pool, which includes the Newcastle Knights, North Queensland Cowboys and Penrith Panthers.

The squad will depart for Auckland on Thursday with numerous activities scheduled in the lead-up to the start of the tournament on Saturday.

oh my god what an awful awful side we need wins for moral boosting winning tiddly winks anything s just a boost this is a terrible side wont beat anyone my intrest in nines just went north

Disappointed Moses isn't going, but otherwise it's all a bit meh isn't it - just a bit of fun for the weekend. Hope they do well.

Jeez, that is a pretty ordinary squad. I reckon they will be lucky to have 5 in round 1 squad. No Grant, Parahi, Rankin. Think that they should have taken Moses. Very forward heavy and the backs that they do have are not particulary quick.
