Some people may be aware that the Rugby League Secondary School Powerhosue, St Gregory's College, has been rumoured to be losing it's League culture. Last year the Telegraph had a huge spread in relation to the school moving away from League and into Union (a rumour strongly denied).
Well there are a group of old boy's, several known to many of us, who are not prepared to let that happen. Peter Mullholland, Warren McDonnell and Martin Bullock are part of the group attempting to re-establish the college as the number 1 League school.
They persuaded the Headmaster to allow the employment of a full-time head coach of the first grade side - on the condition that the school did not have to pay a cent  So through sponsorships and fundraising the committee has employed a full-time coach for 2010 - Lee Addison - I don't know much about him but I think he was Manly's Harold Matt's coach last year. They have also contributed some new training gear, etc.
In my opinion, this is a great initiative (I may be a little biased, as I am a passionate St Gregs old boy myself) and I think is a good thing for the Tigers. Firstly, if League lifts another notch at the school, they will continue to attract the talent. The Tigers have the edge when it comes to recruiting these guys - especially in the case of students from the country who have to board. Due to training being in close proximity, the Magpies often have high quality boarders playing Matts/SG Ball on the weekends, take for instance Matt Groat. Provided the Tigers keep their foot in the door, they will maintain an advantage in a very competitive player market.
Plenty of talent has been produced in the last few years - Ryan Hoffman, Brendan Oake, Beau Scott, Stuart Flanagan, Taulia Tautai, Peni Tagive - and at the Tigers we only currently have Lawrence, Mataka and Mullaney in the NRL mix. Hopefully over the next few years we can continue to develop and maintain some of the talent.
Anyway I thought some of you would find this interesting. I am not trying to make anyone pay the $100 to become a member, you would want to be pretty passionate to want to pay such a ridiculous amount in my opinion
