Starting the season on a Thursday

yeah its a bit mystifying… my assumption is it has something to do with conflicting programming on Friday night...
or they know that that extra day waiting is just to painful for us die-hards... :slight_smile:
 
I think this is where it should be headed! There pro's, they don't have jobs to get to during the week. I can't see any reason why we couldn't have Thursday night footy, Friday night footy, Super Saturday, Sunday footy and Monday night footy.. Five days of footy a week!! That'll do me.

If Thursday night footy is introduced on a regular basis, we're gonna hear a lot of teams b*tching about short turnarounds

I assumed this was just for the first round. The problem with Thursday footy would be a potentially short turn-around from the previous week, but that's not a problem in round 1.
 
Nathan McGuirk (Ops Manager or something like that) said on Big Sports Breakfast last week that it was the last year of the Ch9 agreement and they both thought to try something different in round 1, He also said that Thursday Would not be a regular as it is way to hard to schedule so that teams are not adversely impacted by very long or very short turn around between games.

I like it as it is one lest day of Off Season.

Ed Zachary, five days of footy, and I'm sure as buggery not complaining.
 
I thought it had more to do with the cricket. Isnt there a one dayer on Friday? And isnt cricket the reason for channel not having a 4:00 game on Sunday? Warriors and Manly on live???

Short turn arounds PFFT. If they whine about playing the game they love then they should do something else!
Besides with expansion on the way this could be easier to work, obviously if you play Sunday, Monday you don't play Thursday, can't see why this couldn't be introduced.. And yes Saturday Arvo Footy… DO IT!

Wasn't it to suit channel nine programming, something to do with the cricket?? Apparently it was so successful that channel 9 are exploring ways, with the league, to play another Thrusday night game later in the season.
