State Cup Live Game Thread vs Manly Round 3

50-12 fulltime. Great win by the Tigers despite some very scrappy play and silly penalties in parts of the game.

Standouts - Tedesco, Akaoula, Bullock, Farlow, Sue. Luani looked pretty good, Simona and Mr T also looked sharp. BMM got a decent run but he seems to step up a gear when playing FG.

Thompson back from suspension next week so things are looking up for Wests Tigers.

The backrow looked great, as did the defence in the second half.. Teddy was a standout and big T should have taken that high ball that bounced in goal, won't be able to get away with that in FG

Akoula was pretty good.
Teddy is all class….Taq has a long way to go

Spence looked to be struggling for fitness...doin it tough out there

Tedesco was everywhere, ready for every chance, fantastic support player.
Akauola made a difference in 2nd half, his offloads created a number of chances.
Sue hits very hard in defence, and has very good leg drive

3 Tedesco
2 Sue
1 Akauola

After watching that mess you come to two certain conclusions.
1\. The standard is extremely poor compared to first grade standards.
That includes the defence and attitude of most of the players , the refereeing … and the commentators.
2\. No one ever mention George Rose again in connection with the Tigers, please.
Apart from that it was a good chance for the boys to build some confidence and run in a few points .

At least the commentator pronounced everyone's name correctly.

And the word Balmain was never mentioned.

Agree with ck, "Gorgeous George" is not the sort of player we want.

Very poor effort by him today…...

NSW Cup: Wests Tigers crush Manly 50-12 to claim first victory

Wests Tigers claimed their first points of the season in the NSW Cup competition today with a 50-12 victory over Manly Sea Eagles at Leichhardt Oval.

A hard week of defensive training after conceding 42 points in being beaten by Penrith last weekend, the Paul Fletcher coached Wests Tigers produced some aggressive defence and good line speed to set up the victory in the first half.

Wests Tigers opened the scoring with a try next to the posts by second-rower Ben Murdoch-Masila from a short pass by hooker Masada Iosefa. Captain and five-eighth Sean Meaney converted the try for a 6-0 lead after nine minutes.

A short raid down the right edge saw giant winger Taqele Naiyaravoro dive over in the corner. Meaney converted for a 12-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Manly five-eighth Jason Seage outsprinted second-rower Jarrod Farlow after sliding past Meaney to score out wide from a scrum win. Half-back Dane Chisholm converted the try for a 12-6 scoreline after 30 minutes.

A superb 40/20 by hooker Masada Iosefa gave Wests Tigers a scrum feed inside the Manly quarter. From the scrum win, the ball was spread left before full-back James Tedesco scored untouched out wide.
Meaney converted the try to give Wests Tigers an 18-6 lead.

Manly scored their second try when Steve Tativa slammed the ball down on the line near the posts after the Sea Eagles got an extra set of six on the back of a penalty from Iosefa. Chisholm converted the try to leave Wests Tigers leading 18-12 at half-time.

2nd Half

Wests Tigers extended their lead on the weight of repeat sets when Meaney gave Farlow a nice ball on an angle run to beat the full-back to score next to the posts. Meaney converted the try for a 24-12 lead.

A nice break from dummy half by hooker Joel Luani put him in open space before sending Sitaleki Akauolo on a long run to score. Meaney converted the try for a 30-12 lead after 62 minutes.

Naiyaravoro scored his second try to further impress his claims for a first grade berth. Meaney failed to convert from close to the posts for a 34-12 lead after 67 minutes.

A minute later, Tedesco streaked away for a try after a good offload by Akauolo to half-back Jack Madden who found support in Tim Simona to send the full-back on their way. Meaney converted the try for a 40-12 lead.

Two minutes later, Tedesco scored his second try when he swooped on an infield kick from Simona to score. Meaney converted the try for a 46-12 lead.

Wests Tigers reached the 50 points mark when Tedesco split the defence up the middle to offload to
Simona who faked a crossfield kick to score next to the posts. Meaney converted the try for a 50-12 victory.

In all, Wests Tigers scored nine tries with Meaney kicking seven from nine goals.

I heard some confused fools screaming out 'balmain balmain' after the game…..maybe they thought the u/16s were on next

Must be tough going thru life living a lie and avoiding reality

Maybe it's because the team wore Balmain jerseys.

It's the Wests Tigers just wear the Wests Tigers jersey. Why do we have to wear Balmain Tigers or Wests Magpies jerseys.
Can't we afford a third set of Wests Tigers jerseys for NSW cup ?

1 - NSW cup is a comp with teams of history and tradition (norths, newtown etc)
2 - it was a condition from BOTH balmain and wests that half home games were played in respective strips
3 - the team is WT and it does not make players play any different
4 - our brand is muddled enough even with official WT jerseys so this arrangement is not going to hurt.
