State of Origin 2025

I thought it was a pretty ordinary game for origin - a couple of qlders obviously short of a run after injuries. DCE not up to origin anymore - qld looked far more dangerous when Dearden was on and i would have him as starting 7 next game. nsw played well at different times but at other times looked way too conservative. game was over in the first 30 minutes when qld forwards were steamrolled in to submission.

I thought the Clown kept a very skinny 10 and that certainly helped the blues with their fast defensive line. I thought QLD’s spine was very disappointing and created nothing for their strike weapons.

Blues should have won by the length of the straight with the field position and ball they had. Like others, nines commentators are a real turn off

Yes, for some reason Origin refs have come to be judged by how few times they blow the whistle.
NSW have done a much better job adapting to the lack of policing and move early on every play. Qld just can't get momentum because their forwards are smashed as soon as they touch the ball.
It makes for a really poor spectacle as very little football was played last night.

I think the Blues just did what they had to, there was no need for any risky ball movement, they were always in control and just played safety first/ risk free

Certainly not a game for the highlited reels....thought Cleary again was a bit underwhelming, it seems whenhes away from the high structured Panthers role he finds that difficult

Who was commentating....couldnt hear most of it was with about 7 other blokes

Underwhelming?
He constantly had the defence in two minds, taking it on 20 times personally running for 137m and breaking 10 tackles whilst also throwing 39 passes. His pass to run ratio was 1.95, meaning he was unpredictable and they held off him enough that he had time to orchestrate the first try and deliver a perfect pass to Edwards for the third. His defence was really strong as well making 22 tackles at 95.65% with none missed. He put in 6 attacking kicks to Moses's 1 and 455m in general play - the most on the field by over 120m.
It wasnt a perfect performance from him, but he was head and shoulders the best of the halves in that game.

Yeah not his usual high standard, a few errors there which isnt much but from a player weve become used to being a 9 or 10 almost weekly its noticeable.
Interesting stats Fox has him running 60m

Harry Grant was surprisingly off his game, got hooked in the end. I’m sure he’ll bounce back next time, Dearden will still be in the side as half and DCE on the water bottle.

I thought Collins was one of the better Qlders .....especially after only playing 30 minutes in the last 6 weeks

Grant
Holmes
Munster
DCE

Are the problem areas

Qld didn't even come remotely close to competing in any areas of the game ....should have lost by closer to 30 pts
I can’t be too critical of Grants lacklustre performance. Blues had a plan to target him early, they hit him with the kitchen sink, making him do about 20 tackles in the first quarter. He also copped a very heavy knock on the head.
Interestingly the 4 poor performers you mentioned are the very ones that have previously got QLD home.
Who said Daley couldn’t coach?
I suppose he did have 2 of the best coaches working with him, Bellamy and Madge. A very clinical no frills display by NSW.

Madge?

We need to do better than Harry.
Dozer has always performed better.
Unfortunately Mahoney or Billy Walters are the next in line. Maybe we give Reed a go and play a drinking game for every fight he starts?
Reed’s inclusion would certainly make it more of an Origin game again that’s for sure. He could unsettle NSW with his niggle, put them off their game, might be worth a shot, though he’d more likely end up in the sin bin for half the game lol. Is Hunt still unavailable?

Hot take: NSW should have won every origin since 2018. It's actually a miracle QLD have won three series since then.
