Statement from Wests Tigers
Following speculation in the media over the past two weeks regarding the Club’s review of the Coaching structure at the Wests Tigers, the Board and Executive Management team of the club would like to state the following.
The Board and management of the Wests Tigers are committed to providing our members, corporate and community partners and fans the most competitive team both on and off the field. With this in mind, the club has decided not to extend the contract of three existing members of our support staff for 2014\. For avoidance of doubt, these decisions are not performance based and these individuals involved have been informed.
The demands and expectations of an NRL coach and his staff are enormous. Success on the field and man management off the field are two of the most import things a coach will be judged on. There is no doubt we have had our game day challenges this year with both injury and performance but there is also no doubt that we have witnessed some trends off the field that we need to fully understand and rectify immediately.
In regards to Head Coach Mick Potter, there is no doubt that he has had some outstanding success as Coach and he was obviously a tremendously gifted player.
That aside, the Board and Management of the Club need to fully understand the position we find ourselves in and work with Mick to come to the best outcome for both himself and the club. There are many options we can consider. The most favourable of these options is to work with Mick to develop a coaching structure and provide the personnel the club needs to create a consistent winning attitude. This is a key priority for club CEO Grant Mayer.
The structural recommendations and personnel to fit these roles will be presented to the Board at the end of August.
Over the closing five rounds of the competition, the Club fully expect that the coaching staff and the players continue to take pride in their personal performance and understand that winning starts from within. This is a proud club and we fully expect that every person that is fortunate enough to represent the club understands what it means to be a Wests Tiger.
No further comment will be made about the Coaching review until the Board meet and consider the structural recommendations.

Nothing hard and fast is there? Pretty neutral statement apart from 3 staff to go and no further comment will be made….

Hate to read between the lines, but it looks like they may agree to get Potter the people he needs/wants.

Then again, it specifically states 'club needs' so that may or may include Potter as head coach or assistant.

Yep, clear as mud…

I know you all hate Moley on the tweet, but he seems to think it's Leeds, Georgallis and Royce all gone.

But if they want to sack Potter, i would like to see how they will be balancing the books paying not 1 but THREE head coaches!

The way i read the article was;

- there are results on the field (which can be justified through injuries)
- then there is the man management side of things

Thw fact they mentioned the man management aspect was concering cause it gives credence to the moles report.

Why didnt the statement come out and say 'potter will be our coach in 2014'

It's fair enough statement for me. They state that their aim is to develop a culture and structure that Potter wants/needs to succeed with the club. They are letting the supports go to permit this, "overthrow" the shackles of the old regime.

But they are also saying that if Potter can't come to some sort of an agreement with the board about how the new structure should be, then they will consider moving him on too.

I imagine it means something like the board/management have certain expectations/requirements for 2014 (probably including certain KPIs) and if Potter isn't happy including those in his plans for 2014, then he won't stay. That is what a review means anyway.

Whether or not the board/management actually have the answers to turn the club around is another question entirely.

Ken Y. You have a very valid point. If Potter was Coach next year. Those 5 words would have cleared it all up.

Just heard on Fox Sports that a 'sub-committee' of the Board has already decided that Potter will be punted next year. The info came from a Josh Maussad? from the telecrap, so who knows.

Well Josh is where at least two our our "esteemed" board like to leak stories

Quick question, where is all this money coming from?

The board were harping on about having to pay Sheens out and it pulling on the purse strings. While Potter came cheap I'm sure, he'll still be worth a good two hundred grand that they have to pay out?

It would seem everyone is fair game at WT.

I read that statement as …"Mick Potter has the full support of the board"...meaning he will be gone in 6 weeks.
