Stats against the Titans

We arw a different forum when we win but we should still be consitent and honest.

Mats does not do enoigh offensive work. I dont think anyone questions jis defence hits and sticks the majority of the time.its awesome we won but we jave too many passwbgers with ball running. Mats, taylor mcqueen and huth all make minimal metres. This puts crazy pressure on twal mikalle aloai.

Nie im not saying any of them dont deserve a spot. We just need to find the right balance of defenders and ball runners and imo we are short 1

@hodgo Maybe we are short of a defender as well

Matulino 25
Taylor 41
Farah 42
Twal 35
Huth 28
McQueen 26
Aloiai 21

**Mikaele .....10**

It's not just about metres.

@GNR4LIFE He was dropping Shannon Boyd with no effort. Say what you want about ET, he has the best tackling technique and wrestle in the team. Needs to be in the team week in week out

Agree. He is a solid team member.

Note. I watched McQueen on second half, a ton of decoy work as the ball was spread past him. Thats a ton of running for he and others that doesnt get captured in the stats.

Something to build on however I fear next round.

I was watching Mats closely in the second half and his defence was exceptional. However, I agree, he is not making enough metres.

@Geo Well if Huth is more of an offensive weapon than Matulino then perhaps I'm watching the wrong matches, because I reckon Huth is a bit of a pillow in the carry and doesn't really employ the offload that he has.

There's 3 good runners in our forwards - Twal (motor), Aloiai (impact) and Mikaele (power). Rest just trundle up. Typically not a lot of post-contact metres, not a lot of momentum / run-up.

I went and looked at all the starting props last weekend and the rough average is either over 100m or ~80m and 20 tackles in 40-50 mins. I was able to count a dozen starting props that didn't make 100m. Meaning that one prop typically does more work than the other, then subbed out. Most bench props and most backrowers max out at 85m.

Mats does hit 80m every second week or so, so he can do it. I'd also like to be able to look at when he's being asked to play - Tigers are shaky opening 20 (Fox commentators said 60 points to 2 in our first 6 rounds first 20 mins?) and we do a lot of defending last 20 as well.

If Fonua, Jennings and Marsters usually take the first 3 hitups, then Twal, that leaves 1 tackle per set for every other forward. It's not as if all the other forwards are carving up in metres and Mats is being left behind... it's Twal by a mile, then the rest. Same as how it used to be with Woods, and I suppose that happens too when guys like Twal, Woods, Gallen want to take 1-2 runs every set.

By all means get Mats up towards 85m per game on a consistent basis, but get all of the forwards up there with him. And winning 4/7 so far, something in the planning is working out. I reckon just put the meterage to the back of your head and let Maguire decide if the output is adequate.

I didn't mention offence..the point was brought up about Matulino defending..I just said Eisenhuth was massive in defence in the last 10-15 mins when the Titans we attacking our line set after set cause he umm was..

Both of them (Matulino and Eisenhuth) could work a little harder on their caries..not so much the statistics but maybe the basics of Rugby League run harder tackle harder than the other team .....they are both big enough....yeah

Right but you said he is outplaying Matulino weekly. If both their defence is solid and important late-game, the differentiator must be attack? Or just good looks?

Yes the wrongness of head comes into it of course...I think Eisenhuth has been playing better that Matulino weekly as well... but not just looks probably at a 3rd of the cost..

This exactly. 100% agree.
