Well deserved but doesn't make sense. Isn't Laurie still eligible as he only played 3 games for Panthers previously and you are eligible until you play 5 games.

If Laurie is player of the year, wouldn't he by default be rookie of the year?

These are Club awards..there are no criteria regarding Rookie of the Year Games etc..

So they just leave it for interpretation and give out awards to whoever they want?

Not sure what you mean..

Love it ...get it

Think of it this way, should we prioritise signing a starting prop to help take the focus and reliance off Stefano so early in his career, or just try give him the cash now?

How about we improve his game by surrounding him with quality players, that's more likely to make him want to stay. And then upgrade and extend him for 2 years

Stefano might end up the best front rower in the game with a bit more experience. That said, it's going to be hard hanging onto the big bloke with pressure from clubs like the Roosters and with the new Queensland team to enter the competition in 2023 cashed up and looking for players but we have to at least try and tie him up for as long as we can, while we can. Problem's going to be, and not just for WT, most agents would likely be telling their clients, including Stefano, not to commit to any long term deals until the impact of the new club on salaries can be factored into any negotiations.

Could be hard pressed to top Haas ...but can definitely see him in the Top 3 if he continues to improve at the same rate and stays fit and healthy

Wests Tigers have suffered a further blow with boom prop Stefano Utoikamanu sustaining a syndesmosis injury.

The Tigers were sweating on the results of scans on Saturday to reveal the full extent of Utoikamanu’s injury but there are fears it could sideline the 21-year-old long term.

He was seen leaving Campbelltown Stadium on crutches and officials have genuine concern for his immediate playing future.

The Tigers will be without arguably their three best players, with Utoikamanu joining Adam Doueihi and Jackson Hastings now watching on.

The Tigers could be without nine first-string players for their next clash, against the Titans on Thursday, as they face the real prospect of a winless month to start the season.

The Tigers are hopeful Ken Maumalo (ankle) and James Roberts (quad) – who both missed Friday’s loss against the Warriors – will be fit to play the Gold Coast.

But they may be forced to skip another game because of a short turnaround.

Back-rower Kelma Tuilagi (concussion) is considered the best chance of taking his spot back in the Tigers side.

The Tigers will certainly be without Hastings (suspension) while Shawn Blore, Doueihi and Tommy Talau (all knee), plus Asu Kepaoa, remain on the long-term injury list.

In some good news for the Tigers, interchange forward Alex Seyfarth was cleared by the match review committee despite being placed on report.

Teammate Jake Simpkin was the only player charged by the match review committee following Friday’s clash. He has been fined for a crusher tackle.
