So Parra has announced they have upgraded him to top 30 for this year...

Question - We have signed him for 2021 onwards but are the eels allowed to talk him out of it so he stays with them OR does he need us to release him as he has signed with us?

I know you are all saying its no chance but this is the Eels we are talking about... Pure scum

I read on the forum earlier that he had declined the top 30 offer, can they upgrade him anyway, also he said he did not want to make his debut for them

I've read all that too

Maybe Stefano and Madge have agreed he should take the deal and experience that comes with it as by the sounds of it he would've seen NRL action this year if released to us

Maybe Parra want to retain him this year because they believe they’re in a premiership window and he can contribute. There are a few pundits suggesting the Eels will be a force...unfortunately.

Being a WTs fan, it's easy to fall into the 'We are gonna get shafted basket'. I'm choosing to relax with the whole idea of Steph being forced to stay. He wanted to leave, it was declined and now we wait for him next year. Parra as much as I hate them have every right to keep him and if they think their chances of winning premiership are increased with him there, then what do you expect. Hopefully we smash Parra every game this year, we finish well above them on the ladder and Steph will be frothing to join WTs in 2021. My biggest worry is if he gets a serious injury before he comes to us.

Imagine if he did have a break out year for parra and absolutely killed it then they had to tell all there fans that he is off to westigers next year hahahaa

parramatta eels resign young gun stefano utoikamanu to fend off wests tigers

its a nothing article - the usual rubbish from DT.

Wests Tigers have been dealt another recruitment blow with young gun Stefano Utoikamanu upgrading his contract with Parramatta Eels.

The Tigers had been hopeful of snaring Utoikamanu immediately after landing the Payne Hass-clone on a three-year deal worth about $800,000 from 2021.

However, the Eels refused to release the local product from his contract a year early, instead upgrading the 19-year-old prop from a development contract to a top 30 deal.

The contract allows Utoikamanu to fight for a first-grade spot in round one, with the Eels having high hopes he will make his NRL debut this year.

The Eels upgrade is just for the rest of the year, with Utoikamanu heading to the Tigers in 2021.

Parramatta general manager of football Mark O’Neill praised Utoikamanu’s dedication during the pre-season.

“Stefano is an exciting young prospect who has been training really well during the pre-season and has earnt this opportunity,” O’Neill said.

“He is held in such high regard from his peers and the broader Eels club.

“We are all looking forward to his contribution throughout this season as we strive to do better than what we achieved last year.”

Utoikamanu will continue his development at Parramatta.

MORE NEWS

The Tigers had earmarked Utoikamanu to be a regular NRL player this season after the retirement of Ben Matulino. The Australian Schoolboys representative won man-of-the-match honours for NSW in their under-18 Origin match last year.

He will now compete for spots alongside a star-studded Eels forward pack that include off-season additions Ryan Matterson and Reagan Campbell-Gillard.

The Eels-Tigers clash in round five will have some extra attention given the way Matterson exited the Tigers last year and the Eels’ refusal to handover Utoikamanu this season.

Meanwhile, St George Illawarra have made a play for Parramatta winger George Jennings. Jennings, 26, played just two top-grade games last year.

Exactly what we need to do. Swallow the frustration and anger, crush them on the field and be done with it.

It’s just rubbish headline to mask the fact he was upgraded to top 30 NRL contract for duration of his current contract. No drama.

Sweet. The journo must get paid per click.

They can't offer a contract before November, in which case we would have to release him - not worried. I'm glad he's getting payed an extra 35k or so a year minimum upgrade to be in the top 30 - he deserves it for his hard work & training over the summer. He'll be in prime shape come 2021 he's just honouring his contract. In the meantime, Parramatta recruits: Salesi Fainga'a (Fiji), Tyler Field (Aus schools), Joe Taipari (NZ/touch), Ejay Toeava (NZ/cousin of All Black Isaiah Toeava) & William Kei (NZ/cousin of Jonah Lomu) - the last two guys are highly rated juniors

Hey mate

Are you saying all the players you mentioned at the end are signed by us?

@Ponyo provided similar information last year and these guys are training with us.

We've also signed Vea Tapa'atoutai & big Tyrone Faulkner from eels (union 8). Quite a bit of turnover in the Flegg + CC ranks:

Recruited: Aamon Dean (giant), Ryan Garner (Luke's brother big strong winger/goal kicker) Kuyan Laurie (future star), Vea Tapa'atoutai, Michael Fenn (manly/former union 8), Lachlan Talau (Tommy's brother/hooker), Austin Dias, Tyrone Faulkner, Brendan O'Hagan (tricky half), Matheson Johns (big centre) - O'Hagan & Johns were mentioned here along with Billy Brittain but I can't confirm.

Gone: Elia faatui, Soni Luke, Jack Miller, Kurt Aldridge, Cowen Epere, Riley Cheshire, Gus Garzaniti, Jordan Main, Kane Mcquiggin, Billy Stapleton, might be missing a few here..

For those that were wondering Gamble, Broncos development squad & Hiroti Sharks, Simona in France playing for FC Lezignan

The thing for us is Pascoe and Madge have repeatedly stated "we only want people who want to be here...we only want people who want to be here...we only want people who want to be here..."

So, what if the kid has a great year, bonds with the seniors players and says he wants to stay at Parra?

Your welcome. Add from previous page Waita Setu (QLD Reds), Brad Abbey (fullback), Salesi Fainga’a (Fiji), Tyler Field (Aus schools), Joe Taipari (NZ/touch), Ejay Toeava (NZ/cousin of All Black Isaiah Toeava) & William Kei (NZ/cousin of Jonah Lomu) pretty good

Well, given that scenario, there would be a lot riding on his original reasons for signing with WT, and how deeply meaningful those reasons/closely held beliefs are worth. Particularly if his breakout season puts Matterson on the bench and his value is $800k per season.
How is his brother?

Then we cut him loose...and that's exactly what Parra will work to make happen...I cant see the kid coming in 2021

We won’t be letting this guy walk, not a bad tactic by tigers to get Parra focused on snaring Matterson then knife them to death by coaxing their treasure.
He’s part of Madge’s forward buildup, adding size to the front row.
