So, what if the kid has a great year, bonds with the seniors players and says he wants to stay at Parra?

He's already put pen to paper EH. It's a done deal for 2021 like Jai to Souths. Parramatta wouldn't release him and were within their right; that isn't an indictment on our club. Stefano is being professional & working hard in the interim - he gets to earn a few more bucks and gain experience with his promotion to first grade, good for him. If and that's a big IF he changes his mind they'll have to wait until November; highly unlikely any talks would end well for Parramatta given our past dealings with them to be honest. We're more likely to top up his contract then lose it to the Eels but we'd have to cross that bridge if we ever get to it. No point in hypothesizing a year out from now if you ask me. It's very stressful and there's too much to look forward to.

Being a WTs fan, it's easy to fall into the 'We are gonna get shafted basket'. I'm choosing to relax with the whole idea of Steph being forced to stay. He wanted to leave, it was declined and now we wait for him next year. Parra as much as I hate them have every right to keep him and if they think their chances of winning premiership are increased with him there, then what do you expect. Hopefully we smash Parra every game this year, we finish well above them on the ladder and Steph will be frothing to join WTs in 2021. My biggest worry is if he gets a serious injury before he comes to us.

It'll be a test as to his attitude...ultimately, he's being forced to stay at Parra...if he decides to reneg on us, then he will be forced to stay with us.

Good post, and I agree with everything you said mate. In theory, anyway.

But Moses and Matterson had contracts also.

So far, on the 'getting out of deals' fronts it is Parramatta 3 wins v Us 0 wins.

I do hope though that if / when they try anything this time we just laugh and hang up.

If he's being a pro now, doing his best within failing to obtain his release, then he'll be a pro in 2021 as well.

It's unf for Stefano because despite the small upgrade, he's got a clearer path to FG at Tigers vs Eels, injuries notwithstanding. He'll potentially be a very good pair with Mikaele.

And if he's not a pro, bring him over anyway, because he's on a 3-yr deal.

Diff between this and Moses/Matto is we had those blokes already playing, they chucked their toys and we thought best to let them go. Also those blokes were on large deals, which Stefano isn't yet.

Like Ponyo said, no point worrying about it now. Too many fans here worry worry, that's not a good way to ingest your sport.

I still think its a dirty trick by the Eels, obviously trying to get him to reneg on his contract with us.

Theres certainly no honour among any team when it comes to dealing with players. I was thinking maybe at least Raiders, but we'll see with whatever is going on with BJ.

Question - We have signed him for 2021 onwards but are the eels allowed to talk him out of it so he stays with them OR does he need us to release him as he has signed with us?

He'll be in prime shape come 2021 he's just honouring his contract. In the meantime, Parramatta recruits: Salesi Fainga'a (Fiji), Tyler Field (Aus schools), Joe Taipari (NZ/touch), Ejay Toeava (NZ/cousin of All Black Isaiah Toeava) & William Kei (NZ/cousin of Jonah Lomu) - the last two guys are highly rated juniors

We've also signed Vea Tapa'atoutai & big Tyrone Faulkner from eels (union 8). Quite a bit of turnover in the Flegg + CC ranks:

Recruited: Aamon Dean (giant), Ryan Garner (Luke's brother big strong winger/goal kicker) Kuyan Laurie (future star), Vea Tapa'atoutai, Michael Fenn (manly/former union 8), Lachlan Talau (Tommy's brother/hooker), Austin Dias, Tyrone Faulkner, Brendan O'Hagan (tricky half), Matheson Johns (big centre) - O'Hagan & Johns were mentioned here along with Billy Brittain but I can't confirm.

I put the list together. It's accurate +/- a player or two at the moment from what I've gathered. CC & Flegg announced soon I don't know what's going on, before or after the 9's

How are they having a fit? Nothing wrong with them wanting him to honour the end of his contract. The fit is coming from this forum, expecting Parra should roll over because we want him a year early. Maybe our club should try holding its players to contracts sometime.

Actually it's a myth that you can't talk to anyone until November. You can approach a player and let them know you would be interested, you just can't discuss figures or table an offer.

Yep, rules like the “no talk rule” are designed to place the minority of honest people at a disadvantage. As I say, WT acted swiftly to sign Stef before 22 November.
