Stefano Utoikamanu #241

I just did the math with Stephs 800k contract he would get taxed 50% so he would take home 400k a year

That’s $7700 into his bank account very week

That’s mental

Are they though ? Bellamy is retiring , the roosters will have a change of the guard next year , and Penrith will also have a transition year or 2 .
What is true today doesn’t mean it will be tomorrow .
Brisbane , manly and the bulldogs were entrenched in the top 4 most of the early century , and when we could get our players to stay off the physio table , we were also right there .
90s it was Canberra and Brisbane again .
80s it was Canterbury and parra . No one saw the parra dynasty falling off a cliff so suddenly .
Melbourne the last 26 years is obviously an outlier , going from Anderson to basically Bellamy (I know Murray had a year or 2 in between ) .
But they will definitely fall back to the pack when Bellamy leaves . It’s just a matter of how far .
Melbourne and Brisbane have the rivers of News Ltd money and Easts have Uncle Nick. Penrith are the outlier but the big leagues club and junior base are keeping them up there. Funnily enough that’s also our ‘advantage’. Bellamy yeah, I’ll give you that one. I’m tipping his system is tattooed into the walls down there. These clubs may have down years, but they rarely have a long run of outs.

It is for us mortals F but that’s the sort of coin so many are on. When you break it down like that it’s good money but a demanding job.
It’s a tough 5/6 days x 2-3 hour training each week, home for school pickup and dinner with the family.
No cost of living pressures there, unless self inflicted. Even when I see the basic pay of ( I think) about $150pa I wince !
But that’s just the way it is, and as they always say it’s a relatively short career !

Yeah I’m not envious of what these players put there body through and certainly pay the price in the long run

Just comparing that what I earn as a carpenter is unbelievable

Could be over in an instant (ask Dwyer or Tuiaki) most get a lot less $ too- at risk of being seriously maimed or developing CTE in later life.

If they’ve made it that far they’re better than 99.95% of their peers they grew up playing against.

Can’t blame them for trying to maximise their earn while they can.

The poor buggers doing it for next to nothing in the lower grades are the ones I tip my hat to.

UTOIKAMANU SET TO ATTRACT SEVEN FIGURES FROM RIVAL CLUBS AS TIGERS TARGET POTENTIAL REPLACEMENT

The Wests Tigers are set to lose Stefano Utoikamanu with the star prop likely to test himself on the open market.
Despite being offered $4 million over five seasons by the Tigers, the 24-year-old will reportedly trigger the clause in his contract which will make him a free agent after he wasn’t selected for NSW in State of Origin and with Wests set to miss another finals series.

The Daily Telegraph’s David Riccio said the in-demand prop is not short on potential suitors.
“I know a club that are willing to pay close to $1 million for him,” Riccio revealed on SEN 1170 Breakfast.
“Money won’t be an issue on the open market for him compared to what the Tigers are willing to offer him.
“There’s a crucial meeting at the club this week between (CEO) Shane Richardson and (coach) Benji Marshall who are going to meet with Stefano again.
“It’s one last crack to convince him to stay or at least not go to the open market. I think there's no chance of that happening.
“It’ll be fascinating to see which clubs enter the bidding war because as I said, I know at least one club who are willing to pay at least $1 million or more in order to get him.
“He’ll go to the open market. It’s a fait accompli.”

Riccio further revealed that the Tigers have already identified Utoikamanu’s replacement if he departs the club.

The Tigers are reportedly interested in acquiring Melbourne Storm enforcer Nelson Asofa-Solomona but Riccio believes that deal is fraught with danger.
“If things do fall over with Stefano, the Wests Tigers will have a look at the Nelson Asofa-Solomona situation,” Riccio added.

“The Storm have been loath to release Nelson at any point and he is struggling as far as being a mainstay of the Storm lineup.
“They have shown no indication that they are willing to release him, he’s got three years left on his contract and he is on massive money.
“My point to the Tigers is that you always have to be careful of players let go by the Melbourne Storm.
“Justin Olam has been solid for the Tigers without being outstanding and that’s my concern.
“It’s where the Tigers may look to head if they lose Utoikamanu.”

The Tigers will look to win their third match in a row for the first time since Round 6 2018 when they play the Sydney Roosters on Sunday evening.

His manager has outdone himself with the number of Stef is a free agent articles this year. I hope Richo is leveraging his contacts to sort out the fact from fiction. Don’t want to be bidding against ourselves at 800 plus. A tactic made famous by the two stooges.
Stef’s last contract had Lee written all over it. Got fancy with a bunch of different terms and conditions as only Lee could - origin, finals, who knows what else was in there. The guy had no clue.. I get that it might have been the only thing that got him over the line at that time, but have you ever heard of a more childish agreement to terms. Was it written in mud and sealed with a secret handshake too?

The only prop who earns more one mill or more is Payne Haas. Do you think Stefano is at that level? Rubbish if you do.
Market value is fluid and always changing... It all starts in the front row and Stef is only just established as an NRL player... Yiu could argue he's still developing
Maybe money isn't his.primary objective maybe a succesful club is the aim?
I really don't wanna lose him give him $1m...easy it's not my moola

I dunno... Been a. Long time since we've had a prop like Stef... He isn't worth $1m or more but whatever the market pays will determine his "worth'
Maybe some of us me Included are a bit blinded and swayed because we've lacked what he 'can' produce for so long

But thats not what you asked....you asked me to clarify the statements from Richo & Abdo, and they were very clear, in fact Richo said "Shane Richardson has also warned he will take any club who tries to lure Galvin out to the NRL". Clearly talking about incentivising breaking his Contract which is also clearly backed up by Richo's admission that they asked for a release.

Well thats not what you asked though was it and Im not interested in accommodating flipping and flopping to suit your argument because you simply want an argument and you just proved you cant discuss in good faith.

Im not interested in an argument. If an unofficial approach is made to Galvins management, its not illegal and if you dont think its happening you are a simpleton.

Why do you think Galvin approached the club for a release?
No actually I only asked you to clarify what Abdo said, and Abdo didnt use the word "lure", that was the journo. Also the journo said that other clubs could not speak to Galvin until November, which you claim is not true.

If you don't actually know the answer for sure, just say so, nobody will judge you.

Look there is a lot said about the clauses in his contract. But does it really matter? We are talking about one year! If he really wants to leave it’s now or next year, he’s still going!

RE- Stef- I keep reading and hearing about Panthers production line. Their next wave of stars is nowhere near as good as ours. They have started recruiting heavily in the Nsw cup level because they normally have 4 or 5 gun 20 year olds fill that void. This year was the first time (I don’t know how long) they failed to make finals in the Matts and Ball. Their cup side is almost unbeatable every year but they aren’t anywhere near that this year. Their Flegg side is traveling ok but if we put our best players in there instead of Cup we cruise past them. My long winded point being I honestly see more upside in us than Panthers, the Roosters should be a “Panthers” with that roster year in year out. I question Robinsons ability to take Stef to an extra level. Yep he will play finals there but not sure he will get that “your our leader” role at the chooks. Our biggest threat IMO is the Storm. Bellamy has a proven track record of turning average players into Origin players. They play finals every year and Bellamy would turn him into an absolute beast. I really hope he stays, but TBH all this “leave a legacy” doesn’t pay mortgages and won’t help him in retirement when he Is riddled with arthritis and other ailments from playing NRL.

Did you? Did you really?
My memory and a quick scroll back, recalls that you said "Just clarify then this quote for me, if you will, from the CEO:"

I then went on to clearly explain to you what the CEO said......

But then you, you ignorant argumentative merkin wanted to squirm and wriggle because I had clearly shown you to be wrong....again.

For the third time now you are changing what you are saying and asking for the pointless reason of trying to win some pointless argument and for the last time ill indulge you. What Abdo said is that the new CBA has some rules in it, everyone knows the rules, if they break rules there will be consequences. Hope this helps you. I know comprehension is difficult for you. If you need further help on anything, like medical forms, centrelink application forms and the like....call the Smith Family.
If you don't actually know the answer for sure, just say so, nobody will judge you.
Ive spelled the answer out three times....and each time you simply lie and obfuscate to twist out of it, because for some reason I am living in your head rent free and its driving you crazy every time I post something that is correct. I can see your hands balled up in tiny weeny little fists and your face all screwed up as you read and type........its a bad look for you.

Does anyone know when this so calledm meeting is this week with Stef?
I hope they say this is our offer and if not accepted we will look at others to replace you in the meantime.
I'm sure Richo knows how to handle the managers.
