Stefano Utoikamanu #241

If it costs 1 million per season to keep Stef, than it’s in the teams best interests to pay it.
Really it is no major issue, just means one or two more players on the minimum salary, rather than players earning 250 - 300k.
With all these young players we have promoted to the top 30 next season, surely none of them are earning anymore than the minimum wage ?
The only prop who earns more one mill or more is Payne Haas. Do you think Stefano is at that level? Rubbish if you do.

Absolutely. You can't take your money with ya when ya dead. A legacy is not about money... its your contribution to the planet and asking yourself the reason for your birth death and rebirth.. money is paper - the Soul is energy. And energy never dies. It ain't so Vicious afterall.

I don’t see him as a million dollar per season player, but I do no know we will be a lesser team without him.
As others have stated, what’s the point of paying the big money for Luai if we don’t have a decent team around him ?

If he is gone, as it sounds in that report, then take a serious Moneyball approach.

You will not replace the player Utoikamanu is with what is available. But you can get a big guy, a harder runner or a defensive demon as a combination of a couple of players for around the same value.

Canberra's reserves middles of Mooney, Saulo & Hola could be had all up for Utoikamanu money. Having watched them play- I'd hazard a guess you drop in talent but get as much statistical return from these guys.

The issue with losing Utoikamanu is his individual impact on the field. He draws defenders. He's strong. The remaining middles would need to either up their game (Klemmer/Twal/Matamua) or an additional impactful player added to the game day roster (Jordan Miller seems most likely).

I like Utoikamanu. But realistically, so long as the right recruits are brought in, adding Luai is much more of an upgrade than losing Utoikamanu.

Would be much easier to stomach if Fa'agutu was more ready to step in!
I think ur wrong , getting luai is great , but ones a back and we can’t lose another forward with papa and maybe Bateman going

Really Luai shouldn't need to be here. Surely Stef knows who he is, how he plays and that he is going to be here next year. I honestly cannot understand why both Stef and his manager wouldn't go for a slight upgrade to see out another 12 months with an option for 2026 and see how it goes with Luai.
Yea i agree - i can see why he is reluctant to sign on for another 5 years. there is no guarantee that we become a power club in the few years. I think the club should offer him an upgrade and sign on for another 2 years. If he still wants out after that let him go.

Feel like you're right, if the market is set at $1m for AFB and Payne Hass is just over a $1m per year, Stef's not close to that.
Stef is a big body that makes meters but he's missing some really crucial strings to a modern prop's bow.
Late footwork, ball playing at the line, offloading, aggression in defence.
He's okay at all of that stuff, not elite.
And he's really only a 50-60min prop at best.
I love having him at the Tigers but if someone offers him $1m it's just too much, our $800k offer is very fair.
I think we’re playing him in low minutes because of our situation. I reckon he could do bigger minutes on his head. Rarely see him exposed in D.

The marquee clubs will make it happen “magically”

No that doesn't clarify what I already knew.
But thats not what you asked....you asked me to clarify the statements from Richo & Abdo, and they were very clear, in fact Richo said "Shane Richardson has also warned he will take any club who tries to lure Galvin out to the NRL". Clearly talking about incentivising breaking his Contract which is also clearly backed up by Richo's admission that they asked for a release.
Can an external party discuss contract terms officially or unofficially with, for example, Lachie Galvin today, without breaking any of the new CBA rules? Can I take official terms from the Roosters to Lachie's manager and present those terms for negotiation, starting 2027?

I would not be asking him to break contract and I would not be putting an actual contract in front of him, just sitting down with him, his manager, his Mum and Dad, his Pop and his dog, about season 2027. Then the official contract is submitted end of 2025. Is this permitted?
Well thats not what you asked though was it and Im not interested in accommodating flipping and flopping to suit your argument because you simply want an argument and you just proved you cant discuss in good faith.

Im not interested in an argument. If an unofficial approach is made to Galvins management, its not illegal and if you dont think its happening you are a simpleton.

Why do you think Galvin approached the club for a release?

With Issac Moses his manager, anything is possible…
