Stephen Humpries 2GB Resigned

What does "very shortly mean?" is there going to me a clean out early? easier said than done unless players are off contract 'shortly' or another cluib is willing to take them, if so, WTs could be going through a similar phase to the one Penrith has gone through although Blair for example is nowhere near the level of Jennings and co.

Oh yeah, forgot about Tuqiri willow. Tuqiri and Blair for sure.

I dunno about Utai, we can still use him till the end of the season and the ill discipline of moltz/aysh might lead to their termination as well as us getting out of some contracts! Lawrence could be a maybe too I guess. Those close to the matter will probably know why Lawrence was playing so poorly.

Yep Blair has to go and we need to buy an ESTABLISHED second runner who runs holes, threatens on the fringes and hits hard in defence.

Nice theory, but your assuming that established secondrower will get good ball…

Many listed here are not resigned after this year anyway , Blair being the exception and I would not classify a few there as being high profile.

he really tore the team apart it all started with getting rid of Gibbs and Fifita to sign the dud mr 500K from there the team never recovered and its all been downhill since

Mate you obviously have no idea of why Gibbs was let go. Even Bryce himself admitted he had to be sacked. Many were surprised he lasted as long as he did.

Gibbsy was a true tiger and was paid to leave… :frowning:
With Humphreys gone ...maybe he will come back...even injured he would defend better than Blair ..actually so would my grandmother

I think the discipline breach actually gives the club an out on Moltzen's contract

WESTS Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys quit the club yesterday in the wake of Friday night's humiliating 54-10 loss to the Rabbitohs.

Humphreys yesterday denied he had been sacked or pushed, claiming he offered to resign in the best interests of the club. He will remain for at least two months while the board searches for a replacement CEO.

Steve, did you quit or were you punted?

If that's how people want to read it, I can't doing anything about it. The reality is that successive chairmen have known if they ever wanted me to step aside, they only had to ask. But they didn't ask, I offered. It was offered reluctantly because of my love for the club. I felt they needed to get a fresh start. Sometimes that can be the best way forward.

Is the club in crisis?

That's probably a word for the people who write headlines. I think anyone who understands football would look at our injury list. We've had eight to 10 of our top squad out injured. Take that many out of any team and they will struggle. As a consequence, we've had to play some very inexperienced but very talented young guys.

They'll have long, successful careers, but it's been difficult having so many come in so early at the same time … rather than describe it as a crisis, I'd describe it as a really tough period for the club. It's a challenge, but it's one we'll come through.

Why are you leaving?

Our board in recent months has been confronting some difficult issues around governance and the structure and funding of the business.

I've been contemplating my own position in the business for a little while. The club is very important to me, but I felt it was an appropriate time for a new CEO to come in to assist the board with the execution of changes.

What are the issues the board is confronting?

The way we are structured at the moment was defined 14 years ago when the joint venture started. Now's the time to look at how relevant it is in the landscape that exists. We need to find a better model for the funding of the business so the Wests Tigers are not only viable but strong and sustainable.

Is there a chance the merger could fall over?

There's not a hope in hell of that happening. I'm encouraged by the fact the board is talking about putting the business on a firm footing.

It's just important we get the right structures put in place so then we can capitalise on all the opportunities that are there for us.

Balmain? Can they still contribute?

Balmain's recent difficulties have been well publicised. They've been put in a difficult and unfortunate position by a series of events.

That's put stress on them, no doubt about it. That stress has impacted on the Wests Tigers, but those things happen from time to time.

That's the good thing about a partnership - if one partner has a temporary struggle, the other partner can help out.

Is it a bad time to be going?

We are going through a difficult period, but I don't want this to be seen as me jumping ship or not being up for the fight.

We spoke about timing and the implications, but we agreed I'd be moving on.

I'll stay on for at least the next couple of months to provide some stability at a difficult time.

Let's look at some of the difficult issues. Benji Marshall. Will he stay?

I hope so.

Has he asked for a release?

No, of course not. I've always been a great supporter of his and I'm confident he'll be back. He is going through a difficult patch, but he will bounce out of that.

What about Mick Potter?

He's doing a really good job in difficult times and he needs and deserves all of our support right now. Mick's a first-time NRL coach. He is a mature and experienced guy who has been around footy a long time We are fortunate to have someone with that maturity and experience in these difficult times.

What about some of the recruitment. Adam Blair?

You make big recruitment decisions all the time. Most people saw the addition of Adam Blair as one of the reasons why we started 2012 as premiership favourites. That would suggest the decision wasn't wrong, but for a number of reasons it hasn't worked out like Adam or the club would have liked at this point.

Do you think the players turned up on Friday night - 54-10 is shocking scoreline.

I thought the effort was there. I wouldn't question that.

Andrew Johns said some of the players didn't have a go.

That's for Andrew Johns to say. I saw a group of inexperienced guys who are learning some lessons and some more experienced guys who are down on form and confidence. I see what they do during the week and the commitment they bring to training. I wouldn't question their commitment.

Did you make a mistake by getting rid of Tim Sheens and allowing Beau Ryan to go?

Tim Sheens was a board decision. It's not that I'm saying the decision was the wrong one, but when it comes to coaches and CEOs it's a board decision ... as for Beau Ryan, that's a decision he made and we are very disappointed with how it worked out.

Wests Tigers will work with Australian Rugby League Commission boss Dave Smith in overhauling the corporate structure of the club to ensure a more harmonious relationship between the merged entities.

The Balmain and Western Suburbs factions have been in an uneasy alliance since they merged into Wests Tigers in 1999, with constant boardroom bickering.

But both parties have made a concerted effort to work more co-operatively and resolved at a board meeting last week to review the club's corporate structure.

The NRL has been asked to become heavily involved to help align the strategic plan closely with that of the ARLC.

Chief executive Stephen Humphreys resigned on Friday night in the belief the move will help the parties move forward together. Humphreys, Wests Tigers chairman Mike Bailey and deputy chairman Nick Di Giralamo sat down with Fairfax Media on Saturday in a show of unity to discuss their plans to work more collaboratively in the future.

Humphreys, who will remain at the club for the next two months, delivered the key goal: ''For us to be strongly branded and recognised as Wests Tigers. We all come from somewhere, but increasingly over the next five years we need to be about Wests Tigers.''

The Tigers face many challenges. They currently sit last after being trounced 54-10 by South Sydney on Friday night, have crippling injuries and have reached a delicate point in negotiations to extend the contract of benched superstar Benji Marshall. But perhaps the biggest obstacle is ensuring Balmain and Western Suburbs come together in more than just name only.

''The reason we are sitting here and talking today is because we want this to work and work well,'' said Magpies representative Bailey.

There was unanimous support for first-year coach Mick Potter. ''He is doing a fine job and we have absolutely no criticism or questions of what he is doing,'' Bailey said.

What a load of crap from Humpty.he needs to move ito politics with lines like this:

Most people saw the addition of Adam Blair as one of the reasons why we started 2012 as premiership favourites. That would suggest the decision wasn't wrong.

some of the decision sheens made like not dropping blair, not promoting miller or the other younger guys earlier last year is imo coming back to bite us ON FIELD.

what humpty said is sort of true about blair as well… i didnt see many disputing his signing.

OFF FIELD: this structure overhaul was to come sooner or later... it's a pity that this problem is arising as our on field vows are getting worse.

however i dont believe a word that comes out of humphrey's mouth tbh.. he's been quoted with BS many times before.
"we have utmost respect for tim sheens, he's here for 3 more years"
"gibbs will be a tiger for life" i cbf finding exact quotes though

stuff like that.. he lies to the media/fans very easily

i guess the positive is... we can only go up from here, right? after sheens' firing, i think most of us did think we will be hitting rock bottom, and this it it i guess
