Mayer mentioned on Twitter he had been speaking with Folkes yesterday. Hopefully it's true, the best we've ever looked was when Folkes was here.

Probably the root of the rumour.

Did GM say what the discussion was about?

He was asking for the colour name that he and Sheenious chose to paint the sheds a few years back , the colour is fading

It was originally about the 2014 heritage jersey but someone picked up on his mispelling of folks as Folkes.

Grant Mayer ‏@gcmayer 18h
15 year anniversary of @Wests_Tigers next year **folkes**. That may help make things easier.

I don't know if that's much to go off. But like most things in the paper or off of twitter, take it with a grain of salt.

just wondering if it's possible for one bloke to have two roles in the club as in strength and conditioning as well as assistant coach?

Great news if true - he was a true unsung hero during the 2010 and 2011 seasons.

I remember watching our boys carve and more importantly BASH the Warriors up that season 50-6 at Campbelltown, and it was my first real thought of "Hang on, were could be a premiership threat here"

on a sidenote, I watched a couple of games the other night - the 2010 semi vs the Roosters, and the 2010 semi vs the raiders.

We are such a shadow of that team now. The game against Canberra in particular when our backs were to the wall, all the press was writing us off, and Canberra were the Channel 9 fairytale.

Lote streaking past Dugan down the sideline gave me goosebumps….

The boys just had a look of "No nonsense" about them. something I haven't seen since the end of 2011 - It's as if the glint left the eye. 2012 they tried hard, but only seemed to regain it for one game (ironically against Canberra)

If that team lined up against our current team, it'd would make the recent game against Souths look like a close encounter.

I travelled down to Canberra for that game, it was a great atmosphere, the Raiders supporters around us were certain they would win and were billing it as a repeat of the 1989 grand final, the place fell apart after full time and I recall someone on this forum talking about how they saw Daley wandering around not believing the defeat of his former club. I recall the players warming up and they looked very determined and if memory serves me correctly lawrence returned from injury and played well, their kicker could have won the game or put it into extra time, not sure now and he missed the shot at goal. A great night travelling back to Sydney stopped at Maccas at sallys Corner and the place was full of Wests Tigers supporters heading home everyone was on a high.

reading the response from Meyer on his twitter account that everyone is referring to they were just catching up as old mates apparently.

Former premiership-winning coach Steve Folkes is set to be the first casualty of St George Illawarra's poor season as the Dragons look to revamp their coaching structure next year.
>
Fairfax Media understands Folkes, an assistant coach to Steve Price, has been told his contract won't be renewed at the end of this season. Folkes joined the Dragons on a two-year deal last year to add some experience to the coaching ranks. But with the Dragons sitting just two points away from last place, the club hierarchy thinks changes are needed, with Folkes likely to exit at season's end. St George Illawarra have won just two of their past nine games and are on the verge of missing finals in consecutive years for the first time in the joint-venture club's history.
>
Folkes' demotion comes after the Dragons re-signed Price for an extra season earlier this year. Folkes has had a decorated coaching career. He spent 11-seasons in charge of Canterbury, including the 2004 premiership win. He left at the end of 2008 before taking up a stint as the fitness coordinator for the West Indies cricket team. Folkes also spent time at the Wests Tigers before joining Price and fellow assistant Joey Grima at the Dragons.
>
The changes will force a reshuffle within the Dragons coaching ranks. It is understood under-20s coach Justin Holbrook will follow Price's lead and make the jump from the Holden Cup to first grade assistant after coaching the youth side for the past two years. Holbrook, who played 17 top grade games for Newcastle, Penrith and Sydney Roosters between 1999-2002, also coached Canterbury's NSW Cup team to successive premierships before joining the Dragons last year. Former St George Illawarra captain Paul McGregor is also expected to rejoin the club's full-time ranks again as another assistant to Price. McGregor has spent the past two seasons in charge of the Dragons NSW Cup side, Illawarra Cutters, having been part of Nathan Brown's coaching set-up before Wayne Bennett's arrival at the Dragons in 2009.

>
Their vacancies are expected to be filled by recent retirees Ben Hornby and Dean Young. Hornby is likely to take control of the under 20s from next season while Young will replace McGregor. After retiring last year, the duo coached St George and Illawarra's respective SG Ball under-18 sides this year before Hornby moved on to the under-20 team's set-up and Young the NSW Cup, when their short seasons ended in April.
>
A loss to the high flying Sydney Roosters on Saturday could result in the Dragons slumping to last on the premiership ladder.

Just said on 9news that the dragons are letting him go, couple of ex players stepping into the role (can't remember which ones)

That's just what the Dragons require the introduction of ex-players…heads straight into the trough ! This will not rectify the Dragons problems. Wouldn't complain Re Folkes just hope he will be one of many NEW faces in the support team!

Just noticed that the dragon's defence has been EXTREMELY good considering their position on the table. Conceded less than 300 pts. Eels at 400, us at 373\. Bulldogs at 313, titans at 295.

And that's from a 2nd last team.

Wrong heads are rolling at the Dragons but I'm not complaining if he comes back here.

Dragons re-sign a coach after he wins 2 or 3 in a row then drop to near last place a few months later. Attempt to rectify by sacking the person in charge of their strongest area. Future Parramatta - Widdop + other forwards aren't going to save them.
