Steve Folkes Joins Wests Tigers !!

Does anyone know if Folkes has any specific qualifications for the role? Im sure he's picked up a lot over the years and is still regarded as being very fit, but in this day and age, a head trainer needs modern qualifications that are acquired through some form of study.

Hmmm….good question.....the Windies are looking mighty fit........shame they cant play........Folksey will be a good fit.........Cool runnins maaaaaaa'nnn

I dont know the name of the guy but one of the first grade trainers is now running around as the 20s trainer.

Does this mean Folkes will be running around in a fluro jumper during the games? Imagine that, having an ex coach on the field with you!

We've had essentially the same coaching staff running the club since 2003.

Shaking things up a little bit, bringing in a new perspective, new ideas, new experience can only be a good thing.

I also think Folkes' intensity is something that's been lacking at this club since it was formed.

I see only positives, wish they'd done something like this years ago.

i think this is excellent for the tigers to have a premiership winning coach as a "trainer". i am sure he will have more input than just fitness training. ull have sheens in the stands with a birds-eye view of the game and folkes at ground level swapping tactics.
this is as good as signing a key player in my opinion. folkes built a ruthless team at the dogs and i hope this rubs off onto the tigers.
at least if folkes is the one to take over sheens this will make it a very smooth transition instead of one coach leaving and another one stepping in. if sheens leaves the tigers, i hope he sticks to coaching australia only coz i can not imagine him coaching another club against us.
now all we have to do is hope JT does not get the sack.

Cherry M did a brilliant job and was well respected by the players. We seem to be stacking the coaching dept with "father figures". Anyway Iam sure Folkes will be not only be good in his capacity as head trainer but might be able to put some grit into the forwards. We have had our fair share of injuries in recent years so maybe they think Folkes might be able to make them a little more durable. Or is it jobs for the old firm???. Also is the the writing on the wall for the little garden gnome!!!

I think that Jason Taylor will be sacked
I think that Folkes will apply for the Souths job
I think that he won't get it
I think that he will be in this new job at Wests Tigers next year

Thats how i see it too. Although im suspecting that Russell Crowe would definitely be interested in talking to Folkes at some point.

If Taylor is punted as expected today and Sheens goes there it will be a dog act after squashing the rumour not 24hrs earlier himself on talkin sport ….
"I will be at the Wests Tigers next season" T. Sheens

Can't see it happening....Can't see Folkes going there now either given the press releases from the club yesterday....

Flanagan or Murray would be my tip for the Souths job....

Lol . oh so its ok for a player to sign a contract and leave when they get a better deal but not the coach. Not that i think he will.

Wouldnt you look after yourself and your family first?

Got ya!

 Nice try…..Money has never been mentioned but I would think he'd be on a decent wicket with us ..........The bloke was asked directly where he will be.......He said "Wests Tigers" .......there lies the difference.......

Now whether a 'better' offer comes along in 24 hours and he jumps then Yes IMO dog act...wont happen

IMO,Sheens is a class act…..you can see how he is sometimes way over loyal to his main core of players, that he won't leave this club stranded....when he leaves, he will do it in a noble fashion.....besides he has some unfinished business from this year.

Usually the simplest explanation is the correct one.

1\. Sheens will be at the tigers next year
2\. Folks is Performance Manager
3\. Folks will stay in that position until offered a head coach appointment
4\. Tigers make the 8 - Sheens gets extention - tigers fail, Sheens goes.
5\. Head job is up for grabs, in which case Folks can put his hand up along with others.

I was told today that a Souths player is adamant Folkes will be there coach next year. Its anyones guess when it comes to rumours, but it was from a prominant player.

If Kearney doesnt want the Souths gig, then the only credible choice is Folkes…unless u persuade Sheens to do a "Brian Smith" & bail out to Souths unless Tigers offer a long term contract NOW!
The fact that yet another "chief" in Folkes is appointed (in addition to Sheens,Royce & Gentles)smells like a succession plan to me..only question is timing

I don't know about Folkes , have we forgotten he was head coach @ the Dogs during 2 of the biggest scandels ever to ever hit rugby league.
Coffs and the Salary cap
Head Coach I'd rather not.
