Steve Folkes made Tim Sheens look good

The title says it all really. The team making the playoffs the past 3 years concided with the arrival of Steve Folkes funnily enough. Its still early days but i would be surprised if the Tigers make the play offs this year after another poor display against the Raiders.

I always thought Folkes got less credit than he deserved. This season will expose the inadequacies of an aging, stale coach.

p.s. Love the fact that our only EXPERIENCED prop in Matt Bell was given 20 mins of game time tonight. Sheens is a true 'mastercoach'

And now he's assisting a rookie coach in Price….....who suddenly looks great. Saints forwards are fit, fast and big.

Ours are slow and look unfit.

I agree with most of the criticism on here ATM but who in our forward pack looks unfit? Groat probably looks the worst but is still in much better shape than last year… Woods is trim, Gareth is probably the fittest of the bunch, faults and heighny r trim and very fit..
How do they look slow and unfit?
They r under performing yes but they r not out of shape

Have you only just started watching football this season

Saints forwards look just as big fit and fast as they did last season Bennett doesn't put up with slackers trust me and Dean Bunton (Benny's fitness man) Is one of the best in the business

There are plenty of mitigating factors as to why we're off to a slow start this year. Pinning it on one particular reason is foolhardy and hardly insightful.

This morning as I was taking my walk I was trying to work out what has gone wrong with this team, and I came up with one name Steve Folkes. I think he has been the x factor over the past 2 seasons. Now we just seem to be falling apart and no one seems to be able to fix it, we are just going from bad to worse. I know I should be positive and it's only early days, but gee this is getting embarrassing, all my friends are even starting to have a go at me, hopefully I will be able to report that my team is on a winning streak - see I haven't quite given up on them yet !

I get the feeling the magic winning streak is going to be harder to find this season

SOme of them were blowing after 10 minutes tonight. Could not believe it.

Across the board we are not as fit as other sides.

The big question is, who should take responsibility for them not being fit? Should Tim continue to shoulder the blame for that or should he sack John Skandalis?

Nope.

Mentioned it in the Groat thread.

Doesn't take any pressure off the head coach though

Folkes had nothing to do with us making the finals for 2 seasons in a row.

I strongly disagree. We would continually miss out on the top 8 by one or two points, then Folkes comes along and we are a different football side.

I feel the team will revert to missing out on the top 8 by one or two wins again. Still early days but thats my take on it.

I have no confidence in what Tim Sheens does with this side. He never places his confidence in players who fill in for regulars ( note Matt Bell, Junior Moors, Politini, Mitch Brown, ). Then there are his bench rotations and selections.

I feel Steve Folkes papered over the cracks and inadequacies of Sheens, and with him gone they will be more obvious this year

Are we burying our heads in the sand with this because it seems Skando failed?

Theres not alot Skando can do if the supercoach insists on playing 2 backs on the bench. The commentators mentioned how knackered we looked 10 mins in the second half. Thats going to happen when you have no one on the bench to give the forwards a rest. Last night was one of the most rediculous coaching performances i've ever seen

What the hell will the rabbits huge pack do to us, maybe Sheens will only take 1 forward on the bench next that will surprise souths.

Folkes should of been offered the head coaching job instead of sheens getting an extension. There is no excuses for this team. Even with Galloway and lote out we boast 3 international back rowers 1 international half (golden boot winner) and an international centre. Now put Galloway lote and farah into that and there is no reason why this team shouldn't win 17 games this season

Pretty much how I feel as well, we were a different side the last 2 seasons, now it feels like we've gone backwards in a big way.

Especially a conditioning coach.

For me ,Folkes influence is the reason we didnt win the comp at least once in the previous 2 years.

Watching them playing defencive football in the second half of our previous 5 finals and scoring only 3 tries in the second half of those games & tiring when we should have been blowing teams off the park I believe took us away from our game plan and our strength.

Lets face it,if we are going to play like Saints, then lets go for completely different players.

By the way,Saints have only won once & would have won nothing had they been penalised for the knees.
