Steve Georgallis joins the Wests Tigers

Ok, i dont want this to get into a bagging of Steve. I think Ink summed it up well. For me, he was very predictable. He did the same thing everytime he ran the ball,…....got to the line and stepped at the same time he threw a dummy. He was quite limited. But in saying that, he had a red hot go and i always admired him. I'd say he would make an ok hooker, but was not skillfull enough for the halves, too small for lock and too slow for the centres.

Sorry have i missed something 😕
Is Georgallis coming out of retirement or something?
I thought we signed him as an assistant coach that can handle first grade & not cause of his playing ability which ended over 10 years ago

Not sure why his playing career has been raised! It has nothing to do with his coaching ability. Are we going to have the same discussion about Bennett and Belamy?

Then again look at the great players who weren't great coaches, Fittler, Junior, Lamb.

There is no relationship between the two. Georgallis seems to be a reasonable coach on what I have seen to date and it's good to have him on board.

X 2 and it was great to see him last week in action Bears v Magpies replay from 1996

As long as he's a better coach than he was a player then ill be happy. Usually the average players make the best coaches and i love the flowing and crisp football penrith have produced since he took over.

Well as a player I would love a team full of him … wore the Magpie bag with honor and played to the last minute regardless of the score and boy was that bad at times. We all have different interpretations of what a player should be give me Georgallis any day would be my first pick every week all the money in the world can't buy HEART and this guy has it.

Ummm, thats why it was raised and thats what i was saying. gee, a few of u a bit sensitive about a nothing comment.

A good signing I think. TBH, I can't believe Penrith didn't appoint him coach for 2012 and beyond and instead signed Ivan Cleary who probably doesn't have anywhere near the experience or knowledge of the game than Georgallis. I think the theory that the players have been inspired by the appointment of Phil Gould as 'Coaching Director' may have been true to a certain extent, but now that their season is all but over if they lose against the Storm on Saturday and they've lost key personnel (Georgallis, Civoniceva and Waterhouse) I think it has come back to bite Gould on the backside. I'd be spewing if I was a Penrith fan…

Oh well, their loss is our gain

gus gould and ivan cleary are very good mates. thats probably why cleary got the job

+ Clearey played at the top level and has coached at the top level for years. He is far more qualified than Steve…

As for our signing...couldnt be happier, seems like a great person with a top work ethic who the players respond to. After his apprenticeship I'd seriously look at signing him for the top job.

Can anyone advise if Peter Gentle is still going to Salford ??

matt parish is their new first grade coach so i assume he'd only be supporting him if he was making the move…

I have seen Matt Parish in coaches boxes lately (Qld?) and had a chuckle. He was one of the dumbest players ever to play for Balmain. Tough, but dumb. Surprised he has made the transition to coaching.

i may be wrong but i think he was at nth qld for a bit and was then working with the nsw side… dont quote me on that though...

In organisations, a new boss coming in often sacks his existing middle managers (ie coach) to eliminate any pre-existing loyalties with the workers (ie players).

That way there is less of an opportunity for the team to turn against the new boss.

Happened at Qantas and Telstra.

Good to have Georgiallis back at the club- seems a really decent football man.

I laugh at a lot of the comparisons from his playing days- for mine, he was Wests version of Micheal Neil was at Balmain- a good, smart link guy that made the most of limited ability.

Nothing wrong with that.

And there's nothing wrong with hoping he's a better coach than player. I'd say Tim Sheens is a good example of a better coach than player, Wayne Bennett…not a bad thing to wish for.

Maybe some would prefer Brad Fittler- a better player than coach?

TIGERS LIKE GENTLE WAY - Sin Bin - SMH

Wests Tigers assistant coach Peter Gentle continues to be linked to jobs in England but the club is hopeful he will stay and sees him as a potential successor to Tim Sheens. Gentle has been mentioned as a candidate for the vacant coaching roles at Hull KR, Castleford and Wakefield. However, the Tigers hierarchy thinks highly of him and believes he has a long future at the club.

So Georgiallis - may not be the next in line ?

I always hoped that an ex wests player or tiger would end up as coach. We had the successful wayne Pearce period and the not so successful lamb period.Someone who could instill a bit of old fashioned spirit in the joint.

Jason Taylor and Paul Langmack were two possibilities. However Langmack couldn't cut it and Taylor proved to not be a people's person.

Great to have Georgie back at the club.

I wonder why cherry mescia knocked back the conditioning job- i wonder who he had a fallout with?
