I think it would be a great move for them. Bondi is pretty much the best known suburb in Aust.

Yes but in terms of history it should be eastern suburbs.

I suppose you call them the Tricolours still? I really don't think the name Eastern Suburbs has a huge historical value - nobody seemed to care when they changed from that to Sydney Roosters.

perhaps you need to read up on the history of league. No I dont call them tricolours I call them the rorters and I hate them but history is history how would you like balmain to be called GLEBE or call my Wests leumeah. Its why new york are the yankees and L.A are the lakers when you change names you lose brand value for not only the club but the league.

It's a rebranding excerise. several boofheads tarnished the image of the Sydney Roosters so they are changing it to Easts/Bondi. That said, Sydney Roosters was a horrible name, Easts is much better, heck even Bondi is better.

Well the Lakers were from Minneapolis so maybe you should read up on history instead… It's not about denying your history it's about the relevance your branding has today. And that's why Balmain became the tigers, Canterbury became the Bulldogs etc.

And in my opinion (at that's what it is) very few people had a great emotional attachment to the name Eastern Suburbs - it's not particulary marketable and it doesn't really resonate with supporters.

Yes I know the lakers were from minneapolis originally but that move made sense in the respect that la's market is 20 to 50 times bigger than minneapolis's market I dont understand why they would call themselves a suburb name like Bondi when they could keep up with history and keep a region oh and by the way the bulldogs from this year will now revert back to the name canterbury bankstown.

Keep up with history? All this was fine 30 years ago when you only had Sydney teams. This is a national competetion so Eastern Suburbs is an anachronism from the NSWRL days - a non Sydneysider might ask Eastern Suburbs of what? Things move on…

The Dogs are a different case. There is only one Canterbury-Bankstown district and it's supporters identify with that area a lot more than I've seen people from the Eastern Suburbs.

As for your ongoing NBA analogy I'd say that the Lakers name is far more important than being called LA. I've just got back from California - you can find Lakers stuff all over the West Coast but try finding anything for the LA Clippers. And it's a national competition. They certainly wouldn't call themselves Northern District or something like that.

Well have to agree to disagree but judging by the poll at the top of this page I have 90 percent of people agreeing with me.

Well I'll keep sticking to my opinion rather than worrying about what everyone else things. Besides it's 26 people and most of them probably want to go back to leather footballs and Saturday afternoon games on the ABC too…

And us 26 people can support the LA lakers while you can support the minneapolis lakers.

I coouldn't find the 'I don't care what they are caled, I'll still hate them" option
