Tactics to beat manly

**Ballin holds the real key for the Eagles IMHO. If he is on his game they are a very dangerous prospect.**

But I agree with Simon in that I know little of their new combinations. Hoever the old chestnut of Watmough and Glen Stewart being trailed by Brett Stewart through the ruck remains a critical danger for us.

It will be interesting

If our forwards and our D aim up, then we should contain Ballin…add that to the earlier post of ball control, and it'll win you games any time of the year

He has been charged which doesnt mean he is guilty. A formal charge doesnt mean that the arrest was correct, just that (in the police's view) there is sufficient evidence to bring a case. I am not supporting Stewart (Ithink he is a grub) but standing players down pending a court case suggests they are guilty of the conduct complained. I dont agree with that labelling. Players are targets - Benji is often targetted when he goes out. If he defends himself against an attack and then is charged with assault, is he bringing the game into disrepute?

Your are correct, however (I'm no lawyer…) I believe a false arrest is different to someone being found not guilty. If the Police have reason to push something through the courts then I see no problem in a player being stood down and in fact think it is fair and just.

Like i said... I see them being stood down, not for the reasons of their court appearence (it is not the clubs position to punish for these things, but the judicial system), but for bringing the club into disrespute.

These guys are public figures and as a result have a responsibility to behave and act accordingly. He should never have gotten himself into the position he found himself regardless of what is true and untrue. You are right about Marshall... and the telecrap (to my understanding) had something to do with the time he was baited... but he simply removed himself from the situation.

If he was aggressively attacked and defended himself... I am sure he would not be charged with assault.

That's a bit harsh if you ask me. These are young guys who like to have a good time (as we all once did or do). People should be judged on their actions, not on what position they got themselves into.

play the full eighty minutes :deadhorse: then take a week off. Is 80 mins to much to ask from these millionaires? just give me 80 minutes. how simple can it be. i dont get it.

Tactics -

- belt the crap out of them
- run at the halves, target Lyon
- get up in there face in defence, line speed is important!
- belt the crap out of them
- ball control
- kick away from Stewart, or kick it dead.
- be patient in attack
- back up the man carrying the ball
- bomb to Lote, make use of his height !
- belt the crap out of them
- crowd must be loud and give it to the cheating refs at all times!
- Sheens!

Bring on those Silvertail scums !! HIT HIM !!

I hope this time Watmough doesn't run virtually through half our side everytime he takes a hit-up.

Defence will win this game. Get Ellis to belt him.

The opening few rounds are always about ball control.

totally agree, this will build confidence. the key to the boys this year is to patient and not try to win games in the first 20 mins and burn out in the 60th minute.

* I agree and when they get up off the ground, then belt the crap out of them again.
* have a traditional softening up period for at least 70 minutes.
* then belt them hard.
oh what the hell, just belt them hard and bruise their silvertail ego's
let them remember that each time they play wests-tigers, they will be bruised all over. :imp:

It looks like Tony Williams may be one of the centres for Manly. If this is the case we should be focusing plenty of attack at him. He is rubbish.
Also Wolfman was pathetic last year. If we can target him and force a few mistakes early in the game his confidence will be shot and he will leak points.

All of this, plus not picking Fitzy in the 17 should do it.

To me, we need to bash them through the middle.

You cant go around Manly, they'll be physical, put pressure on our passing, slide and control us easily.

So we need to be physical, bash through the middle, be patient and then hopefully wear them out and take control from there.

Look for big games from KG and Ellis. Hopefully Cayless and Heighno have good runs also. Moltz, Benji, Farah and Lui to blend - big expectations will come out of this game. :sign:
