I think we all need to settle down here we could have won today And we really didn’t play that well.
Eels are a top 4 team this was a huge effort from the boys we have a lot of winnable games coming up we always new the first month of the season was going to be tough

I never understand this argument - just because they are a good team we're excused?

These are the teams we need to be competing with. All this shows is how big the gap is.

The scoreline might have been close, but the performance sure as hell wasn't close. The Eels were terrible, and playing in 3rd gear - yet comfortably won that game. When we got close, they turned it on. They did enough to get the win, but if they were on the could have put 50.

We are not competing with them - at absolute best we fall in to 8th spot. We are not going to beat top 4 sides. the sides we are competing against are teams like Newcastle, warriors titans saints and sharks. We beat those sides each time we play them plus beat those on the level below being manly cowboys broncos and dogs then we walk in to the 8. Yes it would be wonderful to beat top 4 sides but at the moment i'll settle for beating the sides we need to beat.

Well, yes - I understand what you're saying. But at the end of the day, we will need to be able to beat or at least compete with the top 4 sides to win the premiership.

There were 2 points in it they were there for the beating there not that flash .

Seriously, we are missing a few pieces in key positions and depend on some youngsters who are genuinely a couple of season's away from realizing their potential.

Our pack is tougher than previous years for sure. But sadly Brooks is just super average in a hugely influential position. Our 7 and 9 don't take the opportunities other sides do. Today was pretty obvious.

Liddle has been a rock in defence. Often left isolated by lazy middle forwards who are looking to be the 2nd and 3rd man in.

Service was better today than it had been in recent weeks.

Liddle, Brooks, Doueihi and Laurie will all look better if our forwards can make ground and get quicker play the balls.

My biggest concern is a complete lack of structure and gameplay, and unless every player is a moron we need to look at the coaching staff

Sadly, what I’m thinking as well

Our disallowed try early and Gutherson's 'onside' at the finish both had about the same amount of doubt about them, yet one is pulled up and the other awarded. 12 point swing. Very hard to win close matches without the officials giving you the rub of the green.
Ditto for the 'not played at' decision when their bloke knocked it over the sideline after our guy kicked it. Pretty much exact same scenario yesterday was ruled as 'played at' by Tariq Sims and Newcastle got the ball back. Lottery-like officiating is head-scratchingly bad.

My IQ4 in both instances tells me the 2 million + was wasted on the Bunker..

Not to mention the dodgy penalties such as when Moses rolled himself over the sideline and we got penalised for pulling him into touch and the absolutely horrible call in the first half when Nofo was penalised for supposedly stepping back over the top of Sivo at the PTB. He never moved at all, Sivo just dropped it cold. Those sort of decisions accumulate. Would be nice to be on the other side of a few of those for a change.

Mitchell Moses wins the cake for my least liked non-criminal player. He was mouthing off all game, then pulls a cat move like that.

They pretty clearly tried to push Moses over the sideline when the tackle was completed. He's a goon but he carved us up. His kick for touch with 5 minutes to go was supreme and the sign of a player who understands the game.

Exactly, Para were way off and controlled that game very very comfortable - regardless of what the score board said.

I’d still smash him if he was my neighbour.

Thank god our draw gets easier. Can definitely pick up a food 5-6 wins in our next 8 games or more if they don't kill themselves on the field with discipline.

It'll be real interesting to see how we go in the next 8 weeks. All winnable games and I expect us to control a few of them. Fingers crossed no injuries.

The draw is a crock
Look at what Parra has coming up
Look at what the Pamfers have had
Rigged

They'll choke once again.

We were poor in many areas and they were allowed 2 tries that should have been disallowed, sure they were still the better team overall but they are still pretenders.

I honestly believe we are improving and there are some promising signs.

In my opinion weakest teams are Cowboys and Manly who we have got both in the next 3 weeks. Should put both those two away easily let’s hope

If we can’t beat cowboys and manly then serious questions need to be asked. Great to compete with the undefeated eels for 74 minutes but that means nothing if we can beat those two.

Another thing about the refereeing. There was one point where we made a dominant tackle on our line, the ref made our tackler get off him straight away. Next tackle crash ball, quick play of the ball. Next play they score.

I'm taking back what I said about these new rules. What the heck is that? That's rugby league 101 - if you smash someone, you are entitled to flop around on top of them for a few seconds. Now I finally see what people mean about the game becoming touch footy.

Yep, the new rules have gone too far, especially the set restarts.

When we were down 8 with about 5min to go, there was a sequence where the ref gave us 2 or 3 set restarts but it was on tackle 1 and in our own half. In that situation, we are better off kicking for touch and getting better field position. An extra tackle or 2 in our own half is almost worthless.

Same as when a team knocks on. There were times we dived onthe ball and got 6 again, but lost 20m. Why not a scrum back where the 1st knock on took place?

They are trying to speed the game up too much and going away from the rules. It's becoming too chaotic and I honestly think it is to gloss over referee decisions.

There is simply no time for replays anymore. They replaced the talau "forward pass" once, with the worst camera angle.

Captains can't even ask refs for an explanation or interpretation. Thanks Cameron Smith

I have to admit, we got closer than I thought.

That being said, there are gaps all over the field. I'm sure a lot of people have highlighted the positives in this thread but I didn't realise how dumb some of our players are. We need a Cooper Cronk or a Lockyer to make decisions for us out there.

I’m seeing too many similarities in the 2021 side to those of the past......if we somehow jag 8th this year we have significantly overachieved... our defence is second rate and our attack is disjointed...we never looked like making a good break today
