Taking the mantle

Came of age, took it to another level, showed just what he could do. Call it what you like, but for mine Woods grabbed the position of top prop with both hands last night with another great opening stint and regained control when he returned from the bench.

The Kiwis have some good ones too, but he also has them covered now. Let's hope he brings a little more of that attitude back to WT.

It was also good to see the blues play a bit of footy last night after a couple of years of boring grind and playing a trying not to lose style.

I liked how he showed some ball skills and a step to score - he should do it more often instead of trying to run through defenders all the time.

Woods was very good last night and it was great he scored a try in the origin arena,he did look good running and stepping to score…well done Aaron,I thought Robbie did ok even though he was under an injury cloud..imagine if Marty was allowed to play for NSW as well, now that would be an interesting scenario.....

He was my MOM, the way he turned the game in both stints.

I was shocked that he didn't get man of the match. For mine he was far and away the best on field but Jennings was very good and they will always give it to the flashier player.

Jennings was by far the best! Without him, nsw lose IMO. Starting to develop a love hate relationship with woods.

Wish Jackson got more minutes- that guy is a brick in defence- as they say, captaincy material.

He was awesome last night and the best on the park…However it takes more than one game to "take the mantle"...loved the footwork in his try

By far the best Origin game by any WT's player ever. Maybe even better than anything any former Magpie or Balmain player ever produced. The only thing that went through my mind as he scored that try was why can't he do that for us? He needs to add a few strings to his bo at club level, other than being a metre eater to truly take the mantle.

it will come with time- he is passing the ball a lot more. first and foremost, he needs to improve his defense- he needs to hit hard! it's crazy to think how good he is at 24

Think a lot may have forgotten Woodsy's career may have been over before it even started …in 2009 his hamstring ripped off the bone...it is a credit to him the way he fought back...For a guy who plays in the toughest position on the field when good Props generally mature much later he is a freak...

He's in the top 5 Props in the game.....As his career goes on No. 1 is only a matter of time...He'll be with us for years too..

I love watching woodsy when fights break out. Wandering among the maroons laughing at people and patting forwards as if they were little pups.

PS:Marty doesn't need to play origin. He brings origin aggressivity to every match.

I dont think he has taken the mantel yet but he is steaming towards such an accolade. Still has deficiencies in his game…
His play the balls are still tardy and his intensity does yo-yo during a game but those are things that will be eradicated the more elite level footy he plays. He is improving all the time and it's exciting to witness his rise.
