Tallyn Da Silva #270

Simpkin was touted as our next good hooker didn't turn out that way used to cringe with the overuse of the dummy looking for tries when he should have passed hasn't done much at Manly to date either.

Simpkin never learnt that things which worked in u15's rarely work when you get to play grade. He suffered from white line fever badly

If someone rewatches the game I'd be interested in more detailed insight. I actually thought some of his first contact was solid. It's not uncommon for a hooker to have some missed tackles, which is ok if there is a effectiveness in slowing attackers???

Don’t need to rewatch the game, he along with everyone else was defending well for the first 50mins. Brought down Marzew 1 on 1, stopped Croker at the line. That said he was defending well for a 19 year old with less than 30 games to his name. He has improved but there is a heap of improvement to go still.

In the trial I thought Hope > TDS

But last night, I thought it was the other way around.
Tallyn really brought some spark from dummy half.
Yes, he gets brushed off in front on tackles but I think he has a big future.

With Api being the clear starter, we've got some serious options as the bench hooker.

Hope, the more defensive, basic, ball distributor.
Or Tallyn the injection of run and attack first mindset.

This could really benefit the team depending on the game plans designed for specific opponents.

Hooker is probably the most physically demanding position when considering how small they are and the fact they're defending in the middle.

Guys like Api, Cook, Grant and Robson weren't regular starters in the NRL until they turned 22/23. The fact Da Silva looks like a passable first grader at 19 is enormous. You can tell he reads the game well and has the instincts to succeed in attack. He'll continue to get bigger and stronger, I'm not so worried about his defence. Even in saying that, I thought he made some great hits too.

Missed 6 tackles in just over a half of Footy. That's got to improve.
7 on the site I read. He had some good tackles too though, and good A. But this is his weakest part of his game. Understandable with his size and age.
He was not alone at missing tackles.

I think the inclusion of Hope had a positive effect on TDS. I think he realised that being APIs backup is not a “fait accompli “ but needs his best footy. I like how angry he was about coming off after the head clash. Showed me he got it !!
